Leah82
I was at a cafe awhile ago and were seated outside next to a middle aged couple with their black Cavalier tied to a chair. We'd considered getting Collie out of the car but decided against it as he has a natural ability to get himself tangled in the shortest of leases, and it was a good thing that we didn't because when other dogs walked past, the Cav went absolutely bonkers barking and snarling. Obviously this is completely preventable but as with all dogs socialization is key :)
mita
we would love a dog that fits in with our family, likes going for leisurely strolls but also just loves to chill out in front of the fire watching a dvd. I have pet p/b Tibetan Spaniels & that's very much the life they lead. They were well socialised with their breeder's grandchildren... so are very good with children. So, whatever breed you decide on, look for a breeder who raises their dogs in a small scale, home style environment... & gives them access to all sorts of experiences, like children, visitors, other animals. Socialization, like this, is terribly important for preparing puppies/dogs to be confident & good natured as companion pets. One of the Victorian registered Tibbie breeders is very much in that direction ... so she could be a starting point for asking for information about Tibetan Spaniels. She's on DOL. Here's a bunch of p/b Tibbies collected together for the cover of the Tibetan Spaniel Association of Victoria Calendar. Shows how there's a range of colours & individual 'looks' within the breed standard. Click to enlarge: Edited July 22, 2013 by mita

There was a Collie tied to a table whining and pulling at the table trying to get to my Cavalier. I find that a lot of dogs go crazy over my Cav but he just doesn't give a damn. However he will pull at the leash for any human, especially kids, he loves kids! Whenever we are at puppy class he will try to get all the dog owner's attention and not bother about the dogs :p

It's an abbreviation of his former show name Rum and Cola. You can blame my OH for that one, Rummy would have been a lot less confusing :p

mita
[ OT - Our Cocker Spaniel is called Collie :) OT, too. Our Sheltie was called 'Horse' most of the time. As in ... 'as big as a horse.' She grew above breed standard. :)
julesluvscavs
Cavaliers and any breed of dog are like us humans, we all have our own personalities and quirks.. They are generally very friendly and easy going and great with children, but if they haven't been socialized properly or have had bad experiences , they can develop behavioral problems. Our old Cav can get a bit territorial, but shes deaf and got some old age health issues now. Depends what kind of mood she is when we go out. Im like that too these days, I dont have the same patience I used too Edited July 22, 2013 by Jules❤3Cavs
