kirst_goldens Posted July 14, 2013 Share Posted July 14, 2013 might be a registry like the aussie bulldog one... basically a group of people get together and make up a database and call them selves a registry... aussie bull dog people tell everyone they eye test their breeding stock... we had a breeder come in for her dogs eye test i asked dont u have to go to a specialist for that? and she said no a general vet only needs to sign a form and thats it... wow good job guys betterment of the breed! what a joke Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mixed breeds, computer generated pedigrees and fly by night 'stud book registries' have created a world of mutts with fancy names and 'papers' to the point where Joe Public doesn't know a purebred dog now. Case in point, the owner of the GSP/Wire GSP that actually owns a flatcoat. The people that own the purebred standard poodle who are told regularly that he's a labradoodle. My own breed that the majority believe 'has some kelpie in there' and in fact has a longer history than that breed and is more documented as to lineage than many humans out there at the moment! In Canada, we had in my eastern region, the "Valley Bulldog", yet another twist on the 'X' Bulldogs we see popping up all the time....those 'breeders' swore blue faced that it was a REAL breed and far healthier than anything else....but when asked for hip testing, cardio testing, eye testing....'we don't have to....we don't have any problems' In this region we have a bastardized version of the curly coat retriever....reminds me of a cross between a curly and a Suffolk (check leg length to understand) and yet they call it another name, swear it's purely bred.....and I have a piece of swamp land to sell in the Vic Alps you might be interested in! Apparently there WERE some purebreds in there but over a few years, the leg length has shortened the head has narrowed and the coat consistency is all wrong. Santo66 Posted July 19, 2013 Share Posted July 19, 2013 The American Johnson Bulldog was bred as a working dog in opposition to the GSD, Rottweiler and Malinois in protection roles........very few came close in working character and trainability fading out a bit in that role over recent years, but seem to be taken on board of late by the tough guy crowd.......probably a good candidate for the BSL list being un recognised by the ANKC and falling in the wrong hands? Told me one day that his dog ran off his property, crossed the road and attacked the dog over the road who was being walked on lead by his owners on the edge of their property. When I asked what was he going to do about it he said he spoke to the owners and offered them a load of fire wood and to pay for the vet bill if they didn't report it.
