Steph M Posted July 4, 2013 Share Posted July 4, 2013 I just ambled into a pet shop near work to get Master Gus a big boy bed and some stuff, because you can never have enough puppy 'stuff', I thought they looked pretty good, a few adult rescue animals in big runs and the like, lots and lots of 'adopt don't shop' things and oscars law posters (i know, i know, but the sentiment is there) so found a bed I liked ($225) and some other assorted bits, but happened to walk past the staff only door, which was open and saw the typical glass pet shop cages with 2 litters of puppies, cavs and pugs by the looks, and another pen of Ragdoll kittens. What the?! They clearly weren't selling them there, I walk past daily and have never seen pups or kittens for sale in the store, could they be holding them for a parent store? I found it so disappointing and told the girl so as I handed back my $250 worth of shopping. She tried to say they were all rescues, but I doubt that somewhat. So, does anyone know if they are a subsidiary of PP or someone similar, or just dodgy? I know I should have thought first, but I thought I could get my shopping done and be off. I have never seen a puppy/kitten in the store, now to see 10 or so behind a locked door. Like I said, sure hope I am wrong. Just wondering is all. Looks pretty good actually they offer their staff a cert in animal studies too. mackiemad Posted July 4, 2013 Share Posted July 4, 2013 The guy who owns it used to be an area manager for pp. The shop's often 'foster' animals that are either sick (kennel cough, cat flu) or too young out the back. The change of chip number form has petsco listed as the owners of animals adopted through them. So animals in their store won't be on the GAWS site. Never seems busy, in fact last time i was there, I saw no sign of staff for a good half hour. Could have walked out with what ever I wanted. Decent quarantine facilities are mostly sadly lacking in rescue and I applaud them for providing such a facility. But what does bother me: the link qquoted in the orignal post says "as we have many pets available which aren't listed on petrescue". Does that mean they are selling undesexed puppies as well as dogs/cats that meet Petrescue criteria? I don't want to jump to conclusions here, it seems that a lot that is good is happening there, but I just want to be reassured that they aren't taking and onselling those quarantine cases without any oversight? If I recall correctly you pee'd yourself laughing when someone bought a bed that cost only around $100 for a puppy and couldn't understand why someone would spend that much ... and you ridiculed people who did such things. I was at Costco today and didn't buy beds for my lot because they'd gone up to $37-something!! :laugh: I'm just a tightarse though, and let them sleep on the couches.
