Ducks Being Killed...

I told her to call the RSPCA, but she was told nothing they could do as wild animals?!

Not true - when we reported someone on suspicion of shooting Corellas out of a tree, they RSPCA were out to see him first thing the next morning, and the police as well as he was discharging a firearm in a public place :mad

Hope someone at least investigates this for your friend :(

I know! I couldn't believe it :(

There are some evil people around.

I would also be reluctant to believe that somebody just caught them if they were not shot or somehow trapped.

We have a pond in a park in town with a lot of feral, not native, ducks living around it and one of them ended up with a fishing hook stuck in its leg. For starters, nobody wanted to deal with it and then, once somebody (I think maybe WIRES?) came out to get it, it was pretty much impossible to catch this duck...

I imagine it was probably a fox or a cat.

I didn't read it as the RSPCA *said* they wouldn't do anything, but the OP's friend had been TOLD that they couldn't.

I recommend contacting the RSPCA anyway. A year or so ago it was found that people had been tormenting and abusing birds at a park in Melbourne, and from memory a swan was killed. It was found that some.. teens I think? had done it, and it received huge media attention and public outcry. From memory the swan's mate was also injured and subsequently died, again to much public outcry.

Yeah I remember that :(

Foxes kill poultry by decapitation - even swans.

Yes :( I am not sure what suggests humans are involved, though foxes only take the head and neck (most often).

If you were not familiar with the above I can understand people believing humans are responsible as it is a terrible site.

Update: they were shot first. The police have contacted CALM and the RSPCA (guess they won't tell them 'no' like they did my friend) and are 'handling' it. Not sure if this is just lip service to calm down all the locals : /

At least my friend seems relieved and her mind put at rest (she has pets and was worried it may be cats, etc next)

Thanks all.

Hm well now that guns are involved I guess everyone's pants are on fire, what with the "war on (illegal) guns" and bikies and all that

Hopefully somebody will be caught over it, idiots like this spoil things for every other law abiding gun owners.

I'm still trying to figure out what this thread has to do with dogs?

Nothing. I was just after some advice as I have no idea about WA laws.

I put ducks in the title so if you weren't interested why read it?

Just thought seeing as you posted it in General Dog Discussion it might be somehow dog related.

My mistake.

How rude! Why not look it up yourself?

I thought HW response was pretty rude myself! This is a forum frequented by animal lovers, not unreasonable to think someone on here would know about what type of incidences the RSPCA respond to!

TT, you may have not noticed yet but your post count has reached enough (I think, unless it's 200 now) that you can access the off-topic section where your thread wouldn't be out of place. :) Mods can move it if you ask.

eta: I think people need to remember that others don't always know the minutiae of DOL posting.
