OSoSwift Posted June 25, 2013 Share Posted June 25, 2013 I have Rommi sitting on my lap and I happened to look down and notice her pupils were of noticeably different sizes. The both react to like at the same rate ( well from what I can see with no correct equipment) there is no redness, discharge or history of injury at any time through her life. She is 5.5years and currently 6 weeks pregnant. Due to knowing there is no history or injury I am just freaking out a tad! Google was not my friend!!!!! It's just freaking me out that there are no signs or soreness, injury or inflammation - that kinda leaves me with a brain issue or a cancer type of issue I hope there is a simple explanation!!!! She has an appointment booked with the vet tomorrow at 2pm, will let you know what the out come is. With her it only happens in a certain light, as Alyosha asked....dimmish outside patio light, brighter on one side. I used a torch and they constricted and dilated as they should just at different sizes. I will check them again and check outside in the daylight She has not hit her head that I know of. Rebanne Posted June 26, 2013 Share Posted June 26, 2013 Fern, my greyhound bitch has different size pupils and has had them for years now. Vision is good. Never causes her problems. The bigger one seems to remain the same size with no obvious constriction but she can certainly see out of it. I've never taken her to a specialist just the local vet. kayla1 Posted June 26, 2013 Share Posted June 26, 2013 One of my dogs had a similar thing with a constricted pupil and it turned out to be uveitis. Although she also had some squinting and the pupil wasn't reacting to light. The most likely cause was trauma but we really don't know. It's always a worry with eyes. The pupil isn't constricted just a different size to the other one and acting normally. Will put her in a darker room and see what happens. OSoSwift Posted June 29, 2013 Author Share Posted June 29, 2013 Thanks for asking :) She is going well, after some advice from an eye specialist - that hasn't seen her - I think I will leave it until after her puppies. There are no signs of anything abnormal other than the differing size of her pupils. Nothing will be done while she is pregnant anyway and I would prefer not to risk her catching anything potentially nasty from the vet hospital. So at this stage it is wait and see and if it all stays as is get it checked down the track. Unless it was immediately life threatening or painful I would leave her at this point in time until after babies. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
