Canine Coach Posted June 16, 2013 Share Posted June 16, 2013 Are there any breeders of medium to large, deep narrow chested dogs, who can tell me where to buy a bloat kit which includes stomach tube trocar needle, tape etc I recently had a very old, much beloved, dog of mine, bloat, for the 1st time, at night, on a holiday weekend, at a small town country show. With life threatening bloat, time is of the essence Luckily I was with her & recognized it at stage 1-2. Took almost an hour, but I was finally able to locate a Vet who was able to pass a stomach tube to empty the stomach of gas as she had not yet torsioned. The dog is alive, but the worst could have happened. I would like to have a kit, should I find myself in such a situation again. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Poodle wrangler Posted June 19, 2013 Share Posted June 19, 2013 Sadly lost our standard poodle to bloat recently. He'd torsioned by the time we got to vet. I stayed with him during most of initial treatment and start of surgery. Vet used a wider gauge needle straight into stomach. Stuck straight in. You'll smell it when in right place. Couldn't pass tube, of course. Do you have any friends who are nurses who might access some items for you? Even some tape etc.? Great idea to ask vet. The clear tube our vet used looked like something you'd buy @ hardware to be honest. Other useful stuff would be hot water bottles, thermal blanket (keep dog warm). IV access and IV fluids (if you had some nursing/ medical skills to start these up) as dog quickly goes into shock. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
