Clyde
1370683738[/url]' post='6222159']I'm glad they're not here. There's already too many idiots here with powerful dogs they cannot or will not train and care for properly. I agree. While I can admire any powerful animal, we have enough breeds here already for people to choose from. No need to bring in another breed who would be a lethal weapon in the wrong hands. tdierikx
I've never seen one, so I just googled... they are certainly nice looking dogs - and even prettier with their ears intact IMHO. Don't think I'd ever feel the need to own one though. T.

benshiva
A good friend and handler in the States has them. Her Dogos live very happily with the Border Collies without a grumble between them. They are the biggest sooks and climb up on your lap for a cuddle. You certainly know you've got a Dogo in your lap that's for sure Love them xx

Affirmation
If they are on the "banned" list, how can there be so many for sale in Australia....if this site/link is legit ?? http://albany-wa.australialisted.com/animals/press-dogo-agentino-puppies-ready-for-sale_17455117.html This was one of at least 5 ads I sw I came across this when I googled the breed to see what they actually looked like after reading this thread. The scarey part is how "cheap" they are....$450 Nice looking dogs though and agree'd, they look much nicer with natural ears.
Clyde
Do you think that ad is legit? Seems a bit dodgy to me.... Not sure how they can be 'non moulting' either
sandgrubber
I can see them as beautiful. But lions and tigers are beautiful, too. If I wanted a muscle dog, I would avoid a breed with white skin (sunburn and deafness issues) and a very narrow genetic base. Temperament aside, the dogo has the hallmarks of a health disaster. *kirty*
That ad is a scam - the text has been copied and pasted with the breed changed. It says 'bichons are great family pets', hence the non shedding comment. Edited June 8, 2013 by *kirty*

inez
Wonder if all these are a scam too? http://www.australialisted.com/all-states/all-categories/dogo/ I remember seeing a litter for sale add last year for ten puppies for sale, at a local supermarket tacked up on the for sale wall. Possibly...going by the bad English & one has a link to their website which is in America. It would be interesting to contact them & find out if they are for real. They come with overseas registrations too

One of those ads said the parents are imports?? Are you even allowed to import a banned breed? I wouldn't have thought so, maybe they imported the dogs under a different breed name? A lot of those ads seem dodge though. A quick flick through the GSD listings and one claims to have pedigrees for sale then in the next sentence says they are great for ppl with allergies as they don't shed!! Wobbly
They really are a working dog. They always strike me as similar to the American Bulldogs - if you wanted a weightpull dog, a dock diver, a ring sport dog or something similar they'd be an absolutely fantastic choice. Probably make a great running or cycling companion too. Not suitable for a suburban yard with no sports, work or hard exercise though. You'd really need to be doing a lot of training with them, you can't have a dog of that size and power and "just hope for the best". They are quite aloof dogs, so socialisation especially can't be left to chance. I met a lovely dogo at a restaurant in Florence. His name is Ozzo. You can see here Ozzo is not overly stoked at this meet and greet with me, a stranger. Whilst his commisures aren't pulled forward, his mouth is closed and tense. I wasn't aware of these indicators of body language at the time I met him, or else I would have approached him more politely, not head on challenging as in this picture. But Ozzo's training and socialisation meant he handled his discomfiture with my awkward approach with great aplomb. I even got a lick a bit later on. XD He's a really good example of how excellent they can be in the right hands. I find the idea of them being the sole province of BYBs a big worry. Evidently they are here now, so I doubt that cat can be put back in the bag, it'd be better if they were only bred by people who have the knowledge, understanding and care to only place them in appropriate homes.
