bel
Need some help. I have a 3 week old puppy who isn't himself. Woke up last night to him screaming. He was out of his bed didn't think much of it put him back with mum and his sisters. For the rest of the night he would start screaming for no apparent reason. Ended up settling on my pillow beside me. Have been to the vets they are unsure what is wrong thinking either colic or some muscular problem. Any ideas? Anyone seen something similar? He has had some pain relief. He won't feed so thinking may need to supplement him.
persephone
Vet visit would be my first idea ... shame he's had pain meds, really - they may mask a problem for diagnosis, poor little fella . Hope he's Ok soon .
Shelby
Is he toileting OK? He could be constipated and having tummy pain?
Jumabaar
Pain meds aid healing so def should be given to alleviate pain. That doesn't mean that all pain is abolished so shouldn't affect diagnosis, just get them to a tolerable level to allow the little one to feel well enough to eat etc. Best of luck with the pup. Sounds like your doing all you can for the moment. Sup feeding sounds good as it will also be less taxing on the pup.
bel
Been to the vets they gave him a pain relief injection. May need a X-ray today to rule out anything there. Haven't seen him toilet as mum constantly cleans her pups. Will try to stimulate him.

bel
Unlikely she only has 3 pups and is so careful when she gets into her bed. He's currently sleeping with his sisters.

bel
update on my baby puppy. Thomas had a series of x-rays today. vet suspects hes had a trauma and has had a bleed into his lungs. His mum although its only her first litter has been one of my best mums so not sure how it has happened. He has had subcut fluids, antibiotic injection and some glucose to help him. he is being suplimented so fingers crossed he pulls through.

bel
A step forward for Thomas today. He was very eager to have a feed twice today. Back at the vets and although his left lung is still sounding awful, he is maintaining his temp and weight. Poor little man he's on injectable antibiotics and subcutaneous fluids daily so more needles he screamed for the first time with them today. bel
Thanks. Every small improvement is celebrated. He's a little fighter. Wasn't a "keeper" puppy but may be now.

bel
Update on baby Thomas. He's bleed turned into pneumonia. He's been on daily antibiotic injections. Today he decided he didn't want his milk so I thought as he's almost 4 weeks I'd offer him so soft puppy food. He loved it. Another great progress happened as well. Got home from work (great thing is he can come to work with me), I thought I'd put him in with his sisters and mum for a little socialisation and the first thing Thomas does is have a feed from him mum. Vets think he should be able to go onto oral antibiotics tomorrow.
