Jillee
We have a 12month male mini daschund at home. He twitches through his shoulders to his back legs when relaxed. He makes regular twitches on the inhale breath whilst he is sleeping too. It doesnt seem to bother him and he eats well and exercises well.Apparantly he has always done it ( my daughter has just returned home with him) but it appears to be increasing ( almost like a shiver....but he is warm to touch (no temo). Is it something that these little dogs are prone too....He is strong whilst running but his back appears uneven ( dip behind withers and raised spine at centre)not a level back....Hope for some replies please. Erny
I'm no expert, but I think it would pay to have him examined by a Vet who specialises in skeletal issues to first find out what the problem is. The fact that he is arched in his back indicates something not quite right and maybe there is pinching of a nerve - perhaps relating to the ribs, seeing as he is giving this reaction on the inhale. A gentle manipulation might be all that he requires, but finding out what the problem is first would be the best approach before manipulation is performed (if indeed this is the problem). I think it's great you have noticed and not dismissed it. It might be nothing, but worth ruling things out. Edited May 22, 2013 by Erny
Jumabaar
After checking with a vet about the muscle twitching I would get a referral to an animal physio who can help strengthen his core muscles and help stabilise his back- which will probably give him a much flatter back when running around.
