I have premium accident & illness cover with Real Insurance and while I am not overly impressed with their illness claims (for Lucy $440 gastroenteritis I had to provide a stat dec to say she was a healthy pup when I got her, lots of running around). I cannot fault their accident cover (and let's be honest as a small dog owner this is paramount). Bonnie's broken legs cost over $7000 and I am entitled to 80% back. She saw a Specialist, went to an emergency vet, had xrays and GA and every single thing was accepted and $5600 refund in my bank within 10 days. So impressed! I pay $7 each a week for each dog and to me that is cheap as for peace of mind as they are so easily injured. Hi, do you have an insurance plan for your puppies that you sell ? I am looking as a breeder to find something to cover my puppies that are for sale. Thank you in advance for any information you may be able to give me. I breed toy poodles. I was SO lucky that Scooter's leg surgery was able to be done at work, I saved around $1000! I also have an emergency credit card with a $10,000 limit that I would struggle to pay back if something ever happened, but it's there if they ever need it. $10k would be my limit for one surgery/accident. I adore my dogs, but I can't imagine much that would cost over ten grand to fix for a Papillon that didn't have lasting repercussions. I wouldn't recommend anyone else for insurance, firstly because PetPlan allows alternative treatments, but they also cover illnesses and conditions for life, not just one year like all the other insurers (after the first year with everyone else it becomes a "pre-existing condition). I think I pay around $600 per year for each of my pugs, and I have a $125 excess per claimable condition. Hi, have you made any claims with PetPlan? How did you find the claim process? I have had a few claims. They are slowish, and only refund by cheque which I think is stupid in 2013. But always got back what I was entitled to eventually. But people have to purchase (or subscribe) to get it. I have a lot of respect for CHOICE. Yes they cover your pet for life but not the pet's conditions, ie. your dog gets an eye injury, they won't cover recurring issues with it like PetPlan. If your dog gets an illness that requires treatment for the rest of its life, they will cover costs for only a year, after that it becomes a pre-existing condition and is excluded. However if your pet develops a chronic condition that recurs (for example cancer, diabetes, or arthritis which requires ongoing treatment), whilst the condition is covered, if your policy is renewed the amount payable for the condition will be limited to the overall annual benefit limit when the condition first arose. So if your annual benefit amount is $12,000 that is the limit that would be paid for the chronic condition over the life of the policy. Hope this information helps you. I checked and they do cover prexisting conditions already claimed for, so thats incorrect what was stated in thiss post and others may go pick the other one due to incorrect information.. I want to pick on valid and correct info and real reasons and choices, so i can make the best choice I can for my boy. Sorry... I was only asking I have to make a choice and trying to find the very best. I am concerened about the 21 day wait with pet plan too as its a new puppy and anything can happen in those 21 days!
