ChewieTAG
Hi all, me baby suddenly get himself into separation anxiety. He goes crazy whining, jumping up sofa, wanting to climb everywhere and continue yelping / barking (bark in a sharp pitchy whiny way). I did give all the toys, kong, bob-a-lot, treat balls and so on for him but somehow he disregard all of it when we are not at home with him. I have spy cam on so I know what he is going through the whole time when I am out. now going out to do some groceries makes me worries. I just wonder if any natural remedy can be use for a long period without harming him? I mean daily dosage for 3 months? I saw from the forum people talking about Rescue Remedy & it works well, and not sure if there are anything else out there that works and it's natural? Edit: he is indoor dog. So basically inside when we are out and about. Thanks Edited May 10, 2013 by chewak
Staffyluv
I used to use RR for my old stafford. I would just open his mouth and put a few drops on his toungue (the same as for me).. Or I would put 5 drops in his water bowl (held about litre of water).. Ollie used this for years. I haven't tried it on the new guy yet but then he doesn't really need anything like it. Rosetta
Have you tried a Thundershirt? Or you could try a snug t-shirt - it works the same way.
_PL_
Not bad stuff for mild things. But I'd post in the training section and ask for professional advice on how to stop this before it escalates. Because it can and does.
julesluvscavs
i used it on a cat that was rehomed to us a few years ago. I probably gave him too much I dont think it helped that much tbh, Im using this successfully for our older cav (but for different issues) it might be worth trying. Perhaps check first it wont clash with any health issues if your dog has any,

I didn't try the Thundershirt but I did try a snug shirt, didn't work. I find having a shirt on him at the moment makes him too warm. It would be ok during winter I guess. So basically put the drops required on his tongue and also on the water yeah? I believe by drinking from the water, it would maintain the calming effect... Salukifan
If you believe that your dog has separation anxiety, I would seek the help of a qualified veterinary behaviourist. The condition is frequently misdiagnosed by owners and if it IS diagnosed, it generally requires owner behaviour changes and/or medication to resolve. The sooner you do something about it, the better. Rescue remedy was never intended to be given on a daily basis. Get professional help.

Get professional help. rescue remedy is primarily to help in trauma situations/with shock etc .... full on separation anxiety does need personal professional help , and a lot of owner input , definitely . There are threads on dealing with S A - here is one you may get help from, and see just how serious it can be if the most appropriate professional is not there to help .
