Aphra
I've never heard of them, but their head honcho is running for Senate as part of the new Animal Justice Party. This is just curiosity, another sensible voice for rescue and reform would be a good thing, but this group have never crossed my radar. They rescue wildlife/livestock and seem to specialise in Northern Breed dogs.
_PL_
I've only ever heard of them by seeing their symbol on the Renbury site.
mita
Says they're a Siberian Husky rescue. http://alphadog.org.au/ Also have a Facebook page as Alphadog Animalarmy which mentions his standing for the Senate. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Alphadog/133822506120 Edited May 6, 2013 by mita
trifecta
This rings a bell with me, I think there was an article on him in the Canberra Times a few years(?) back. At that time I think he was involved with solely rescuing dogs - the Artic breeds, particularly ones with behavioural issues. From memory he rehabilitated them by putting them to work & training them to pull sleds. Once the dogs had a job to do, a lot of the unwanted behaviours disappeared, just like most working breeds really :)
Sheilaheel02
They are actually located about 15-20 mins from me. I've heard of them, but never actually met them. S
Just Andrea
I think I was in touch with them once when they saved some kittens from Wagga some years back - but I just knew them as "Alphadog" - I helped them with a transport and to get them to their carer. I do know they used dogs in rescue situations etc........ they wanted to save some kittens on that particular occassion though although I know it wasn't the focus of the group. Memory foggy though as it was one short period of interaction several years back now.......... although the lady did seem lovely and what the group did sounded amazing at the time. People I would take my hat off to.
Sheilaheel02
I think that's where I first heard of Alphadog too Andrea, aside from noticing their cool sign from the road. Someone asked me if I was taking a cat from Wagga, because a Ranger had mentioned Shannon near Michelago and got confused with me from ACDR. When I asked about Alphadog, I was told they rescued Artic breeds and all the info was positive. S
~Anne~
What a strange name for a rescue.
Aphra
I looked them up on Facebook. Thanks for the info everyone. I haven't heard anything about them, good or bad, I'd just never heard of them until the candidacy post popped up on my feed. Sounds like they do some good work (but might reconsider the tired, old rant about the irresponsible public for something a bit more modern and strategic, but that's just me). Winterpaws
He uses the rescue dogs as sled dogs. Perfect environment for them as they get loads and loads of exercise :) If I recall he takes dogs to one of the poles for racing, North I think? I'm fairly certain he has rehomed dogs as I've dealt with him over the years.
garnali
Alphadog are near to Canberra.. they also raise funds for dogs on the streets worldwide.. (hence the animalarmy part) In Canberra area they often collect feral cats.. They desex and release I believe.. The dogs they rescue are usually the ones that are not rehomable.. Contacts I've had have been interesting.. Cant say I agree with all of their principles but seem ethical and genuine.

I bet the wildlife is glad that they are being killed by a desexed cat (I bolded the relevant part of your post Garnali) So no, I don't agree with all their principles either.
