juice
I am looking for an easy to spread barrier cream for the face? My BT's face is still reacting to something on the walk, i suspect those horrible tall grass's, and even though i am avoiding them they are on the verge on the streets etc so its impossible. I am thinking of spreading some sort of barrier cream on her face before we go out, i tried Vasaline, but it doesn't spread well. It needs to be ok near her eye's as that the worst bit. persephone
..I think any cream would actually attract more pollen/seed, etc .... not to mention the mess ! can you make her a 'zorro' mask ?
trinabean
I use Dermeze as a barrier for one of my kids who has eczma (on Doctor's advice). It's available from pharmacies and is more 'spreadable' than Vaseline. It almost liquifies with the heat of skin contact, so is easy to apply. I also use it on my allergy dog on outbreaks of flaky dry skin. It's cheap, non-perfumed and human grade. Might be worth a try? Dermeze Edit: I would wipe it off with a soft cloth after the walk. juice
Thankyou , will try the Dermeze, and hadn't thought of a zorro mask  , it gets her ontop of her head between her ears, around her eye's and side of face, and under her chin, no where else seems to get effected. I was thinking put it on before we go out, and then wipe her face when we get back to remove anything stuck to it? Just got back from vets with more antihistamines and antibiotics, i am so over it, and skint! Edited May 5, 2013 by juice
*kirty*
Maybe zinc cream? Like the ones you use on babies?
trinabean
Just thinking a little more about it, I would definitely wipe it after the walk as it is greasy. I don't know if it might therefore make her more susceptible to sunburn if it's left on? I would just ask the pharmacist before buying it. Edited: A Zorro mask would look awesome on a BT! Erny
How would she go if you made it routine to wet/wipe her face after each such walk with a brew of Calendula Tea? I know this doesn't answer your question regarding your search for a barrier, but washing off the allergens quickly might be sufficient enough to avoid skin irritation? I would be concerned about cream near or around the eyes - apart from being messy and, as Perse has mentioned, potentially collecting and holding on to those allergens as they stick to it, there'd be the potential for the cream/ointment (along with the pollens/allergens) to be rubbed into her actual eyes. juice
She would be fine Erny, i did try just wipeing her face when we got back with a damp piece of kitchen roll but after a week had made no difference. I did discover last night a tub of mushers ointment i bought for the feet of my old bully who used to get pink feet in the wet and its really easy to spread, so put some on her last night then wiped it off when we got back, its all natural. Is Calendula tea just a brand i can buy at the supermarket?
*kirty*
No, calendula tea is marigold tea and you'll have to get it from a health food shop or online. :)
