kelpiecuddles
We are already dig proof due to having foxes in the area. :) My neighbours at the back have four border collies and they actually used to be our side neighbours until they sold their place and moved onto the other part of their land, so the fences are already very secure, they installed electric fences all the way up the side and they recently put a new timber fence at the back, the fences on the other side are 8 foot cyclone mesh with barbed wire at the top. Dogsfevr
. By the time we were to get a pup we would be well established in our new house which is on half an acre divided into sections, shed at the front, fully fenced orchard(30 metres X30metres which is where the chooks are), then the house in the middle and the fully fenced house yard at the back. So as well as having plenty of space we will have the ability to separate different species as needed. Funnily enough the dogs i now that dog great around the Orchard scenario is the Airedale & they don't shed but of course are larger ,For some reason there popular for this as there under estimated as that loyal pet with character
kelpiecuddles
I absolutely adore airedales but they are just too big. If I could have a mini airedale I'd so be sold! :)

Sheridan
!!!!!! How have I never heard of these! Tell me more! Different personality, though. There was a recent thread about them in General. They need hand stripping.
kelpiecuddles
Stripping them doesn't worry me as long as they aren't going to shed all over the carseats? LOL I'm sitting here reading about them and I'll have a look for that thread but if anyone has any personality insight I'd be interested.
kelpiecuddles
From what I read they seem similiar personality wise to a jack russell, strong willed, smart but important to put the time into early training and socialisation so they don't go off the rails. Which all seems pretty reasonable to me. This little dog might b a serious contender.

Sheridan
KC's not after a pup right away so that might work well. Don't know about shedding.
Salukifan
Lakelands are another Terrier you could consider.

kelpiecuddles
Thanks Boronia but realistically we are talking about something that will likely be a few years away so there's no rush to find a puppy. :) I'll go have a look at the Lakeland
kelpiecuddles
Quite similar looking. If anyone has a personality comparison between these two from their experience I'd be interested. Sometimes in the next twelve months once I have dne a bit more research I might try and get to a show with lots of terriers and have a bit of a look. When Izzy was younger we often got asked if she was a miniature Aireland.
Dogsfevr
Even consider an Irish Terrier less work coat wise than Airedales,Lakies & Welsh & fun dogs ,have the humerus nature the Wheatens can have . The Welsh i handled was a stubborn critter .The Airedale i showed for years was a gem . The Welsh are certainly the Mini Airedales in lloks just not that same nature although both are very loving
kelpiecuddles
So so the welsh and lakeland shed? The irish looks like it would shed?
Salukifan
So so the welsh and lakeland shed? The irish looks like it would shed? I think the Lakeland would be described as a low shedding rather than non-shedding.
kelpiecuddles
OK, still probably a lot lower than my kelpie and basset then I would imagine? At least being smaller a couple of those wouldn't take up the whole boot like the girls do now LOL
