Hi All

My Hemi (Westie) and I attended one term of obedience classes... Before the class he was already being home taught, and I have continued to do so since not attending the class.... However I only do little spots of training and not real full on stuff...

So I decided to enter him in Rally-O Novice. I so far have done three trials. First one I failed Hemi - I had his lead too tight/kept pulling, nerves I think. Judge said we would have passed if I didnt do that. The next trial we got a score of 94 and a 4th place!! the next one we got a score of 85 (judge told me I needed to slow my pace to stop the lead going tight).

So my thing is, hopefully we will have our third pass soon, which means we will move up to advanced.

Is there anyone (particuarly newbies) who has trained their dogs themselves to this level? Any tips. I know Hemi needs work on his heeling.

I have also enrolled in Agility training which I start next week

I'm in the same position as you 3 trials with 2 good passes, don't go straight to advanced Rally O, it is way way way harder. If you do CCD first that is a more gentle step up in Obedience exercises

I worry about CCD and the lack of talking you are allowed to do :/ thanks for the FB page, been an interesting read :)
