Sares
I was wondering what peoples opinions were on Oscar's Law? To be honest, I have only really scratched the surface of what they are trying to do (abolish puppy farms), but just saw someones comment in another thread saying they would not support their agenda. Please excuse my ignorance, I was wondering what is it they are doing that is bad? Edited April 29, 2013 by Sares
minimax
In your own words, can you please explain their agenda, and explain the law that is "Oscars Law"? Edited April 29, 2013 by minimax
oakway
If you read it and understood it, you wouldn't support it !!!!!.
disintegratus
In your own words, can you please explain their agenda, and explain the law that is "Oscars Law"? I supported them at first, but I quickly stopped supporting them for exactly this reason. I scoured their website and could not find a more clearly defined goal than "puppy farms are bad!!" Yes, there's no denying that puppy farms are indeed something that are not desirable, however, I'm not giving money to them just to show that I agree with them, when they have at no point actually said what it is they are aiming for, what donations will be used for, or anything tangible at all. minimax
If you read it and understood it, you wouldn't support it !!!!!. Because nowhere it is actually defined or explained, apart vague emotive "stop puppy farms" slogans.
Kirislin
I've never read up on it. I've seen alot of negative comments on DOL about it, but never the actual reasons why.

Are You Serious Jo
No, there is no information on what they are trying to achieve and the little out there makes them appear misguided.

Sares
so my understanding from comments here is that they are vauge about where the dontation money goes, and what exactly they are trying to acheive and how they plan to acheive it? Are You Serious Jo
Pretty much, just more emotion driven garbage with no idea about how they are going to make change. But they'll take your money
Sares
But arent they aimed to promote rescue organisations and shelters as the first option to adopting, and stop puppies being sold in pet shops? On their website it says: • Abolish the mass production of dogs. Make factory farming of dogs illegal • Ban the sale of animals from pet shops, online and in print media and encourage pet shops to work with local rescue and welfare organisations on advertising homeless animals for adoption. • Encourage people to adopt animals from shelters, pounds and rescue organisations or to contact the Kennel Council to find an ethical registered breeder • Commence running a real campaign about true and responsible companion animal care. I know I am going to somehow get blasted for appearing to be sticking up for them. But I am honestly just curious as to why people wouldnt support them? raz
I dont like them and will never support them. Why will you never support them? Because I dont agree with half baked vigilantes breaking into people's properties, trespassing and stealing animals.

It's well and good to say they will do it, but how are they doing? Apart from the occasional protest, I've not seen them actually do anything? And why do they need donations to hold a protest? Are You Serious Jo
There is nothing wrong with advertising online or print media. I also wouldn't take their word that they support ethical breeders because I've seen enough to suggest they only put that bit in to shut people up. The don't buy while shelter dogs die is constantly trotted out by supporters. Go find their FB and start asking them real questions, see how long before they block you. I am not sure, thats why I am asking. But I have seen them at a number of events I have been to (not just dog related events but also music festivals) gathering signatures for a petition to put Oscar's Law in place. Plus I have just found on their website letter templates you can forward to your local MP. I am not sure what else they do, but that sounds like a form of action. Are You Serious Jo
Can you find and post the exact wording for Oscar's law, the one they hope to get passed?
julesluvscavs
Ive got a few friends involved in it. Im not sure of everything they do, but they are pretty passionate. I do trust their intentions (my friends intentions). Im sure there may be a few negative aspects of it like most things that are supposed to be done with good intention but I don't know about that side of it. I do have a Oscars law sticker on the back of my car, one of my friends gave me, with a pic of a Cavalier. When people see it, they will just say to me are they people that try to help shut down puppy farms and Pets shops. I say yes, but if you want to know more then look it up on the website, or Ill get one of my friends to email them.. I can't comment on the whole of the organisation as I don't know the inside and outside of it. But it seems to have got a lot of mostly good publicity among the circles i hang out in. Sares
and I would have thought they need donations in order to increase the awareness in order to gain the support from the public to get the government to pay attention to get the law passed?
