keetamouse
Has any one had a problem with a microchip moving and coming to the surface of the skin and causing an infected area outside the skin? chip has been in the dog for 3 years with no issues what so ever. Steve
this happens a lot with cats. If you look up negative reactions to microchips its not that uncommon.
Staffyluv
Maree, my old Stafford, Ollie's chip moved. It was originally put in between his shoulders but ended up half way down his left shoulder.. One of my foster dogs was chipped by Queanbeyan pound (I was there and saw them do it) but when he went in for desexing the vet at Karabar rechipped him as he could find no chip at all and he spent ages going over him.. So whether it came out or not I don't know - but the only chip in him was the one the vet put in.

Staffyluv
I guess I was just confirming that they can and do move, in some cases.. But no, I have not had the situation you asked about in your original post.

_PL_
The chip is supposed to lodge in place held by the animal's natural connective tissue that forms naturally and gradually after being implanted. I guess in theory or very rare cases they could dislodge from the tissue, be targeted by the immune system as a foreign body and rejected out through the skin. If that's the case, no amount of treating the outer inflammation will stop the body pushing it out. Just a thought anyway. Foreign body rejection happens with piercings in people too, years after healing.
Jumabaar
I have recently heard of it happening in a puppy- not one that old so it seems unusual because the body should have had a reaction around it well before this and sealed it off. Its still possible though.

~Anne~
It seems the dogs body is rejecting it perhaps?
redangel
i have had a chip encapsulated & come out through a cyst like eruption...pup was chipped at an early age..it had traveled from shoulder blades to a region near rump. Likely to be rechipped at vacc'n. Would there be an issue with this? Dog was dna tested as a pup...but i guess chip lost...will i be allowed to rechip/ is there a protocol? _PL_
Do you mean what happens when the ID (chip) doesn't match the paperwork? I'd say you'll need to get a notarised stat dec from your vet re the two chips and match it all up with existing paperwork. Whether or not the second chip will be rejected again I'm not sure.
