CellarDoor Posted April 4, 2013 Share Posted April 4, 2013 Hey everyone, hope its been a good night for all! I've been asked to look into vets in the Brisbane area by a family member. A family they know is moving there quite soon (due to work) and are of course taking their dogs. One dog is a mix breed that they rescued, who, apparently, has the most divine temperament. Problem is, she's incontinent, as in, she's just constantly weeing, so they have to leave her outside as opposed to inside. Now, I don't know much about this, but it can apparently be fixed, but not by any vets in WA. Hence, could you please let me know of any vet in the Brisbane area that can fix this. Or, just the best vet you know of in Brisbane. The price is no issue :) Oh, and they don't know exactly where they will be moving to, but I'm sure they'll be willing to travel for the right vet! Boronia Posted April 4, 2013 Share Posted April 4, 2013 My dog Mac was incontinent, if he had been asleep, then got up, we knew where he had walked by the little drips of wee on the floor. The vet I took him to said that the syrup she was giving him was for bitches but she has found it it did work on dogs in most cases. It is a most-wonderful medicine...it's called Propalin. Mac (8kg Westie) gets 1/4 ml morning and night mixed with his meals. A 30ml bottle lasts him around 2 months and costs $34-$36 (can't quite remember) The bottle has its own syringe-measurer that sits in a sleeve in the bottle so it is easy to dispense. The vets that I go to are: Koala Park Veterinary Surgery, 535 Cleveland-Redland Bay Rd, Victoria Point, ph 32076041 They have a tall fence and trees out the front but they put a sandwich-board on the verge with 'Vet Open' written on it. She's very experienced & used to be in a practice at Ashgrove. Shows my estimation of her.... I worked at UQ and hugely respected the UQ Vet Clinic. But for tricky or chronic things that needed special individual care & problem-solving .... we'd go to Jennifer White. Still do. Our neighbours who've seen how she deals with our pets, now also drive across two suburbs to take their animals to her. One man owns champion greyhounds. Best of all, she really talks with her clients and listens to their observations. She doesn't have a 'recipe' approach but is a real problem-solver. She'll even answer the phone herself & talk with her clients on the phone. My mum has been taking her dogs to Jo and Kevin for 15 years and I now take mine there because they are so fantastic. It cost me $200 to spey my girls (other vets were wanting to charge $390). When Bonnie broke both her front legs and was at the emergency vet we took her to see Kevin for a second opinion and he reviewed her and said she needed specialist surgery (which we thought), wrote a referral and didn't charge us! Roxy mums 16 year old tenty goes in for monthly arthritis shots at $15 a pop. They are all about the animals and care and its not about the money. They are genuinely caring animal lovers and are not about over charging. I would recommend them as the best, they are so experienced and kind and have a big following because of this.
