Feeding Staffords Sardines

Recommended Posts

I sometimes give the cheap sardines, but normally feed the Woolies Mackeral which is in natural mackeral oil. Must go & check what they say on the sardine pack re: type of oil

My two love the Woolies Mackeral.

I must look out for that one next time im there then :)

All our dogs (including the staffords) over the year have always had sardines.

One of our girls years ago used to steal fresh fish, just caught (whole) and eat them. She ate the whole thing from head to tail..

My current boy loves sardines in the tin in oil or spring water.

He also loves canned and fresh fish like tuna, salmon..

Zig is so well fed that today was his 2nd birthday and I bought him a cupcake and he didn't want it - he took off with the pigs ear that my son got him instead..

Oh, the ingrate!

 Mine are the same. Sometimes I'll give Mosley a little bit of something we're eating, he sniffs it and looks away, I have to put it on the floor in front of him and he will eat it when he's ready....*rolleyes*.

As for Sardines, both our guys lurrrrve them and they get them a few times a week, tuna and salmon too.

My dogs and puppies I raise all get sardines. Usually fresh or frozen.

Sometimes canned makrel

Sometimes fresh whitting or ribbon fish. or salmon head and spines.

When I feed the whole fish its heads, scales, fins and guts, the works.

All raw and they love it.

And prawn heads when we have prawns.

Always super shiny coats

I've wondered about prawn heads, my guys usually get peeled prawns and I chuck the heads

So the heads aren't too spiky?

My girl loves the prawn heads, but I peel away the top of the head with the spikes & she just gets the guts & the legs. She also eats fresh nippers when we go pumping for bait. She knows to shake the claw off first.

I'd always worried about prawn heads being too spiky too :o

You peel the spiky bit off & just give the bottom bit ie the guts & the legs. Nothing spiky in that & the legs are soft & full of goodness. I don't give too many though because of the salt content, but they are good for a special occasion. :)
