Gamby
Hi Trialers, How have you changed the way you dog understands that he is supposed to sit in front of you on a recall without his bum being out a little bit to the right or left or either flipping back to the heel position. Any hints will be gratefully received.
fuzzy82
Plenty of body awareness to start with, then using a platform to teach the position in the first place, only rewarding when straight, until the dog is consistently doing it. If it comes in crooked, don't reward, just try again.
megan_
Are you practicing the fronts on their own? Another trick is to sit I a chair, lets a little apart, lean back and do a teeny, weeny recall. That will help get them close and straight.
Gamby
Thanks Megan & Fuzzy. I shall put into practice both of your ideas depending on where I am
Leema
Another idea is to use a diagram taped on the floor, and shape the recall. It's described in the training levels (you'll have to scroll down to the section called 'front'): http://sue-eh.ca/page24/page26/styled-4/ Then you have to click through to the other levels to read about continuing education.
