WreckitWhippet
Spent several years in Canberra and recieved only the best care from my vet as well. If I didn't, I would have taken it up with them then and there ETA: It helps if you have realistic expectations about what vets can do and that you take the time to discuss with them the possible outcomes of each visit, especially where surgery is involved and you can always seek a second opinion if you aren't happy with the first Edited March 18, 2013 by WreckitWhippet

My dog's vet always discusses everything in detail with me.
espinay2
My main vet is not in Canberra, but I have never had a bad experience with a vet in Canberra whenever over the years I have needed to consult with one there for various reasons. I should add that there have been some that philosophically we did not necessarily see eye to eye, but this doesn't mean the experience was 'bad' just that I sought a vet I could work better with. I too would question the reason for the request. It doesn't seem to be a validated research requirement? (the issues that come with collection of data for research purposes have already been raised by others). Not very balanced research if only bad experiences are being sought.More like dirt digging. Bjelkier
I've been through a few vets in Canberra but not because they have been bad at what they do so much as I was looking for a vet that understood how I wanted my dogs treated. I've been going to the same place now for 5 years and couldn't be happier.
Diva
Well I will be the odd one out and say that I did have bad experiences at a major Canberra vet clinic but it is of no use to anyone now as both were well over ten years ago and I have not kept any records of dates or names. I now use a couple of different vets and am happy they each know what they are doing in the areas use them for.
Sheilaheel02
I wouldn't say you are the odd one out Diva. I had used a couple of different Clinics in Canberra in the past where I was not particularly satisfied, but then switched to my current Vets (one for feline and canine, the other for the equines) where I've now been for years because they are brilliant. Unfortunately, for me the Equine Vet is the furthest away from where I live. I do, however, have a strong preference for individual Vets at these practices, and if the issue was major and my normal Vet not available, I might choose an alternative Vet from a different Clinic based on my own and close friends past experiences. I hope that makes sense. S

I do the same, if it is urgent and the vet I trust isn't on duty, I see someone I trust at another clinic. And I have learnt the hard way to be a loud and assertive advocate for my animals, if a vet won't pay attention to what I have to say, I ditch them fast.
