LisaCC
Has anyone tried the Bottoms Up leash or something similar? https://seniorpetsup...s-up-leash.html http://www.aquapaws....?stg=14&view=14 That second link is an australian one. The other harness I was looking at was the Walkabout back harness http://www.walkabout...ut-back-harness I will also be calling the vet to ask about Biko bands and if they may help http://www.bikomobil.../pet-owners/#DM Or this may be better http://canine-mobility.com/about/ Since Sam's Inflammatory bowel disease has flared back up, his Degenerative Myelopathy is getting worse as his weight drops. I'm looking to get something to help him move around a bit more, but we aren't sure what the future holds at the moment so not looking into ordering a cart yet as if his IBM doesn't get on track we might not ever get to use it. Loving my Oldies
I haven't had to use anything like these examples, but from the point of view of comfort, it looks as though the Walkabout would be the best. The others are straps and would probably cut into the dog, whereaws the Walkabout is a wide band which spreads the pressure.
RubyBlue
Never used anything like that but it looks like the walkabout back one would be much more comfortable for Sam. ETA Snap DD Edited March 14, 2013 by RubyBlue
LisaCC
Yes I was looking at that. They say they don't rub or cut in as they have Neoprene sleeves on the bands, not sure how effective that would be. I was hoping someone might have used them before and could let me know the truth of it.
Staff'n'Toller
We used one for ?months? with a medium sized dog who had back surgery. They don't rub at all, the straps are sewn on the outside. They seem very comfortable for the dog. :) I have a larger size at my clinic now for large dog in-patient use too. Loving my Oldies
Dogs in hospital needing help with their back legs always seem to be lifted by towels which is why I thought the Walkabout would more fit the bill. Let us know how you go, LisaCC

Mudlark
We got the Bottoms Up thing for our old Lab and found that it was very difficult to put on, did not stay up round his hips (it 'wanted' to slip down to his hocks all the time when we tried to lift him with it) and it seemed like it was really uncomfortable for him. After trialling it in the house we never used it again. I don't know if it'd help your dog but we found that a good set of dog boots was beneficial. Our boy's main problem was getting traction with his back feet and the boots helped a great deal. They also stopped him from scraping his back toes on the ground all the time. We got Ruffwear Bark n Boots from here. We got the socks to go with them but didn't find them necessary.
LisaCC
Thanks Mudlark, We actually got a pattern from our vets on how to make our own Booties. We will try how he goes with the home made ones (being made this weekend), if they don't have enough traction we will go with the commercial ones.
