Melbourne Dog Training Club

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

We moved to Melbourne late last year and I have started thinking that it is about time that we got back into dog training. We are currently in Brunswick, happy to drive to nearby clubs if they come recommended. I have googled dog training clubs around Melbourne but I can only find the individual ones that cater for private lessons/puppy schools/problem solving etc.

Any suggestions would be great. We are only at beginner level, we only just started going in Sydney before moving.

Thanks :)

I'm in Brunswick too - personally I would avoid any of the ones local to us here.. I went to Four Paws K9 Training in Keilor which is about 20 mins drive. Four Paws also do short training courses in parkville which might be worth looking into. Much closer, but being a short course, maybe not what you're after..

I stated off going to an obedience school in moonee ponds. Never again. I really regret ever taking my dog and think it set her back many many months - she was very un socialised and terrified when I got her at 3years. Wish I'd gone straight to Four Paws - the staff there actually haven qualifications and training, and an understanding of dog behaviour. Which is more than I can say for some other local places.. Put it that way ;)

Depends on what you are looking for. Something like Four Paws that Alkhe mentioned will do short courses, I have heard positive things from a couple of people that have used them.

If you are looking for group classes there are a variety of dog clubs around. In Niddrie (about 15min from you) there is Keilor Obedience Dog Training Centre. There is the Northcote Obedience Dog Club (probably about 15 min in the other direction!).

They are probably your 2 closest and maybe Northern Obedience club which I think is the one in Moonee Ponds that Alkhe mentioned.

If I were in your situation I'd head down and have a look at how they work (Keilor - Sunday mornings, Northcote and Northern - Saturdays) and see if you're happy with them. Because you're central at least you have a couple to choose from!
