grabonsam Posted March 3, 2013 Share Posted March 3, 2013 Yes, he's a beautiful, gentle boy and the universe has dealt him some tough blows! Mongrels who bought him as a puppy had him debarked! I adopted him 7 years ago. He's only 4 weeks post cancer surgery, the tumor margins were clear, so I can only hope that there is no recurrence. He's recovering well, still very tight and sore, but a tough little soldier - well big soldier actually, he's a big, old style border collie. I have some for my dog's allergies, but I definitely wouldn't use it in this case, as it is quite astringent and will sting like hell. That said, I don't know what you can use tonight. Hopefully he sleeps well now, and you can get some good advice from your vet in the morning. Good luck, and gentle ear scratches for Cooper. Hopefully someone here will know more than me but something about them not going well together, you wait til the antibiotics are finished before using probiotics. I saw your poor dogs photo last night (was on ipad, frustrating to reply) and have to admit before opening the photo I assumed it wasn't going to be bad at all as scrotum rash is pretty easy to do if not careful, but wow, your poor dog It's like whoever shaved him has taken no extra care at all around his sensitive bits. No wiping/washing ..it will hurt, and also damage any brand new skin trying to grow ..what he has looks a bit like a burn ..and it will indeed be fragile . Hopefully the vet will be sensible and not just say "clean it with saline " ...tell him yep , you can do that -IF he gives you a local anaesthetic spray to use a few minutes beforehand ! Honestly ..I really think clipping/shaving like that is ove enthusiastic ..and I hope you & cooper are much less stressed this time tomorrow :) ouchies That shave area in my honest opinion(and yes I have seen many many operations in that area) should never of been done around his scrotum. It does not need to be done. My god that would be damn painful for the poor boy. I would of had kittens if the vet had shaved that area on my boy if it was not needed to be done. Keeping the area clean when the wound site is the hip is of paramount importance but OMG. Far too many vet nurses use the clippers without thought and can crate more unnessacary harm than good. bianca.a Posted March 4, 2013 Author Share Posted March 4, 2013 Thank you all so very much. I called the vet as soon as they opened and got an appointment at 10.30. Vet could see straight away how uncomfortable Coop was so he gave him some sedation. Waited, waited and then gave him a little more. Nope so he had a general anesthetic, they cleaned up the skin as best they could and covered it in Neocort, gave him a cortisone injection. He has Tramadol for pain, and they ordered some Cortavance (mine expired) that I can pick up tomorrow. He pongs and they said that is from the skin, it is peeling off. So I picked him up and got him home and he was still groggy so slept for 2 hours. He then woke up crying and was trying to get to it. So I gave him 2 Tramadol, his Ace and 2 x Arnica pills. It's almost more than I can bare seeing him like this, I know that is a bit dramatic but it's bloody awful I emailed that photo to the surgeon and my vet spoke to him today.
