Hey Everyone,

I have a 14 week old pup who has just graduated from puppy pre-school, she is still a little scared of other dogs and i want to be able to let her socialise with other dogs so that she can get used to it. Is there anywhere you can go in sydney that is a bit of a "Puppy Social" on the weekends or on weeknights??

We want her to play and make friends with other dogs and not be scared to socialise. Puppy pre-school was ok, however the instructor didn't allow the puppies to mingle for long enough and they ended up all being quite frustrated because they could smell each other but the trainer wouldn't really let them play. We don't really want to go through another puppy school again - just after a park meet where she can play with other dogs around her age.

Thanks

Kylie

Be careful who you let her play with - a bad experience with a "friendly" dog that jumps on her and doesn't yield to her "please give me space" signals could scar her for a very long time. It is hard to find well mannered, laid back dogs that allow a shy dog to feel comfortable.

Firstly, I would say that if she is a bit scared of other dogs you don't want to push it too much - you don't want to take her to a park where it is a free for all and the dogs are rough, as she could get more scared and possibly aggressive. Not all dogs want to be friends with all other dogs or want to play with other dogs. Also, different breeds have different play styles and some breed play styles mix better than others. Some breeds play very rough and tunble and wrestle and others don't like body contact.

What breed is your dog?
