juice Posted February 26, 2013 Share Posted February 26, 2013 If he has flea's you need something that will kill the whole cycle. Capstar tablets, then a spot on like Advocate, wash all the bedding too. Check you can give them to pups that young. Can you actually see flea's? There has been a few threads lately on this forum about the skin problems of blue staffies, if you do a search...probably more likey in the health forum. The obvious question is did he actually have fleas? - Had the breeder treated him for fleas? What with? Have you spoken to the breeder about the itching? What did they suggest? Blue_Slash Posted February 26, 2013 Author Share Posted February 26, 2013 Yes a blue staffy , When we got him on the car ride home I found one and my gf found one in the car as well so we stopped at a pet shop asked and done as they said which was a wash and applied the ointment ( advantage ) the next morning . His diet includes puppy mince meat , minor wet food mixed with dry eagle puppy food . And add 30ml over the day of puppy milk . So he hadnt been home and when he was went straight to the big sink for a bath. Can't see any more alive , but yea it's hard to see on a blue staffy but I have been looking. Any suggestions on skin allergys ?? Also any suggestions while so young to not jump up on couch ? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It is very poor for a puppy to be sent home with visible fleas When you take pup to the vet for his "new pup' check ..ask the vet about flea treatment for baby pups- also about the itching. your pup is a TINY BABY ..and applying chemicals is risky at this age Unfortunately, itching can be from allergies/illnesses.. and often it is VERY hard to find the cause . Was pup on the same food at the breeders? are you feeding anything containing artificial colours? I note you are in VIC ? Make sure you have all your pedigrees/registration papers/transfer papers from breeder etc From some of the stories coming from Vic .. they have made some awful mistakes in identifying pups/dogs ... Sandra777 Posted February 26, 2013 Share Posted February 26, 2013 OK - so lesson one, ignore what the 15 year old in the pet shop tells you about the health care of your puppy :D If it's food allergies it could be anything in the diet he's reacting to - was this the diet advised by the breeder? If it's contact allergies it could be absolutely anything in his environment. If it's just a reaction to being fire-bombed by chemicals then you just have to wait and see. I would suggest a bath in mild hypo-allergenic shampoo (oatmeal is generally considered very soothing) to get any residue of the flea shampoo off him just in case this is it. Does he have any lumps bumps or spots on his legs where he's chewing? It could be he's just feeling a bit unsure of his new environment and this is a displacement activity (a bit like a kid sucking it's thumb) What is the "pet mince" - some of them are full of all sorts of rubbish. Personally I would feed human grade mince to a puppy with itches. Avoid beef as this is a fairly common allergen. Unfortunately chicken is becoming a common allergen too. Use ONE protein source and see if this alters his reaction in any way shape or form. Can the puppy milk, puppies don't need milk after they're weaned. What do you use in your home to clean tiles/blankets spray on the lawn, spray on any surface he is in contact with? As for jumping on the sofa - persistence & consistency is about all that will work.
