Hi All,

I am taking Abbey to the beach in a couple of weeks and i am wondering about tick prevention. I havent ever had to treat for it before so i am totally in the dark. Abbey have sensitive skin so im not overly keen on applying anything topically (will if i have to be not as a first and only option). She doesnt get treated for fleas and has never had them, so i havent applied frontline ect...

Does anyone have any recommendations on what i should look at using?

Heading to Jarvis Bay, how do you know if its a tick prone area?

And yes i hope to have her swimming (fingers crossed) first time to the beach :p

I usually call a local vet in the area I'm going to and ask them. But yes, Jervis Bay is a tick area.

Jervis bay is a serious, heavy tick prone area. Perhaps you should do a test patch on a hip area using Advantix. Try 1 small drop and watch for 12 hours. If no reaction apply remaining pipette. Also you can use a Kiltix collar HOWEVER it takes 24 hours to disseminate and you would remove it for swimming therfore taking ANOTHER 24 hours for dissemination after replacing collar after swiming.

there is NO oral treatment available for Paralysis ticks.

remember to apply Advantix at least 48 hours before arrival in tick prone area and to apply fortnighty for continuous protection. Advantix kills and REPELS paralysis ticks and all flying and biting insects.

Hi Tara, nowstarin has actually saved me tying LOL.

Was going to give the exact same advice. Would just like to add don't forget to manually check Abbey from head to toe daily with your finger tips against her hair growth. In ears, mouth, behind stoppers on front legs, armpits & any other body cavity. Ticks are horrible things & will hide anywhere. Lastly but not least. Hope you have lots of fun on the beach. Its a beautiful part of the world. Used to holiday there lots as a child & can also remember making my very first BC puppy lie still for his daily tick check & picking off quite a few...
