They were really calm and enjoying their first ever time on the beach :) Sumo and Willow are both adorable. And wow Sumo is getting huge fast! YvonneM
Loving all the adorable puppy photographs ..... I don't get a chance to post too often, but read almost daily. Everyone's puppies are growing up so nicely! Just a little update if anyone is interested - Banjo just ticked over 6 months last week .... he has grown up so fast - he has lost all of his puppy looks and looks just like a big boy now, well as much of a big boy as a little Maltese can!! He has also lost all his baby teeth (which I have kept in a little clip lock bag - with dates - in his treasure box!!). Thanks to some great suggestions from DOLers here, he now has full run of the entire house all day while we are at work with no accidents in over a month, although at night he still sleeps in his soft sided crate in our bedroom with it closed - he wakes about 5am and a couple of times we have just opened up the crate to let him out but he doesn't seem to "get" that he has to go outside to wee and chooses a nice place on the carpet, little bugger! So we are back to taking him out first thing in the morning, then I go back to bed and he has run of the house. He also doesn't fit into little spaces he used to get into trouble in .... like the 2" space between the fridge and wall for example!! We start obedience classes/training tomorrow night .... puppy preschool was little more than a "free for all" and he really didn't like the other dogs much and is still a bit nervous on walks when dogs bark from behind fences etc, so hoping being around LOTS of other dogs of all ages/sizes in a nice environment will make him feel better about it all. Must remember to post a couple of photos .... goodness knows, I have zillions!
Dory the Doted One
I'm guessing Willow is now huge but Sumo makes her look tiny!!! It's like having baby Willow back. Sumo is HUGE, and so nice. :) I was in awe of his handsomeness and forgot to get some cuddles. He is really gorgeous. Like REALLY gorgeous. cassie
Aww shucks, thanks DTDO Willow is absolutely beautiful too and such a sweetheart, my OH was in love as he adores Rotties! For those who don't know, the pic was taken as we were leaving the Adelaide Royal yesterday. Sumo didn't win anything but he had an absolute ball. I discovered he LOVES kids! He was getting plenty of attention in his allocated booth where we sat all day, but I know not everyone likes to invade your space and ask for a pat, so for some extra socialisation I took him over to the Advance food stand, where people know that they can come up and pat the dogs and talk to the owners. He was like a kid magnet! They all flocked to him! At one stage he was sitting there giving kisses to a couple of 4 year old twins, then a just-walking toddler wandered up and he immediately dropped and let her pat his head. It was just beautiful to watch him behaving so gently with the kids. He hasn't been taught that, it's just the breed and his temperament. I was so proud! :) As for his size! It was hilarious, we had some people genuinely interested in Saints chatting to us and asking questions. When they asked what he weighed, I told them 43kg, but he would grow to at least double that. They looked at me totally puzzled and I said "He's not quite six months old yet" well their jaws dropped! They thought he was an adult! To me it's funny because I know the breed so he clearly looks like a puppy, but I guess to other non dog-savvy people he's enormous and therefore must be fully grown. We got a lot of shocked faces when we mentioned his age actually lol
aliwake
We finally got around to having an adventure on the weekend, and Nixon finally got a chance to properly learn how to swim! He loves being wet, but is still a bit cautious about swimming. He did very well though! crazy run! drying off on my clothes.... very very very tired in the car on the way home... In fact he's been so tired he's been taking himself off to bed at about 7pm the last two nights :) happy puppy!

aliwake
Thanks guys, I finally figured out how to add pics inline like that (after much trial and error!) We all had a lovely time - and it was definitely warm enough for swimming. I did have to get wet in the end to get him swimming properly. I love the passed out pic too Yvonne :)
aliwake
I'll push my luck and see if I can make video work too! this might work? maybe? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151874185052889&l=1693982179644716124 Edited September 9, 2013 by aliwake

Guest hankodie
Aliwake maybe try and upload to youtube and then copy + paste the embed code in a post? Edit: never mind the link you posted works. Nixon is such a cutie! I just gave Hank a huge bone..... I have not heard a peep out of him in about 2 hours. Are the raw bones OK to give him? I'm new to feeding raw anything and it freaks me out a little he's attacking it like a savage! Edited September 9, 2013 by hankodie
aliwake
Would I have to set up a youtube account? sounds painful. :) Hopefully the fb link might work for some... If you like the drying off pic, you'll love the video! Raw bones are great! I gave Nixon one yesterday morning so we could have a little tiny sleep in. I think he was whining at the door again within an hour though, sigh. So 2 hours sounds great! We get lovely meaty lamb marrow bones from our butcher and Nixon loves them. They usually halve in size within a few hours, so don't freak out.

aliwake
Hey Lisa, his halti is going pretty well, thanks. He still doesn't love it, but he'll sit very still to let me put it on, so it can't be too bad. I think it's the main reason he did so well at the fete the other weekend :) His walking is definitely improving, though we're not really doing enough of it. But when we do, there are actually times (occasionally) where he's walking next to me, and even (when he's tired), behind me!! :) Whenever I get home from work late-ish (which seems to be fairly often), we just do a mad dash to the dog park so he at least gets a change of scenery and a decent run around before it gets dark, so there hasn't been too much loose-leash training going on lately. Thanks Jack - he's doing really well! Apart from refusing to sleep-in ever, and biting my ugg boots (when I'm wearing them) at night, he's absolutely adorable :) Actually, I do have a question for everyone. Do you do anything special/extra to get a shiny coat? We ran into some people with another choc lab a few weeks younger than Nixon the other day, and he was super shiny! I'm a bit jealous - being so dark he looks much better shiny. I'm hoping he just needs a decent wash, but if you have any tips, that would be great. The other pup is on Eukanuba which we used to feed Nixon, but he hated it. He's now on RC, which I figured would be on par really.
LisaCC
You could always try some Livamol. It's pretty cheap, here it's $15 for 2kg, get it from a stock feed place, normally used on horses and show cattle but plenty of dog people use it. Just add a teaspoon to his food, should keep him a nice deep chocolate too Edited September 9, 2013 by LisaCC
