JackC
Have bought quite a few things for Nixon online now, but this was an especially good experience. And for an example of how good their prices are - they have furminators for $25! I don't know how it's possible, but they do. What!? I paid $75 for mine! That's awesome! Off to browse their site.... yep same, watching my latest pay check disappear at the same time :D Nooo Jack!! Don't use a furminator on an Aussie!! You'll destroy his coat! Buy an undercoat rake instead, nothing that cuts! Hehe I didn't mean specifically the furminator, I have an undercoat rake for my boy (paw brothers) and two other paw brothers combs my breeder gave me with my pack, NOTHING that cuts :), o and a slicker for general combing, was more interested in the toys and bits and bobs, like adult kongs for $12 :D Edited September 5, 2013 by JackC
LisaCC
Oh good $12 kongs? You've sold me. Going to check it out!
aliwake
Oh yeah, the kongs are the cheapest I've found in aus, though the shipping is a problem if that's all you buy. I plan on buying food from them regularly though, so it's easy to add some cheeky extras to the order :) The panoramis was really cheap too. Buy an undercoat rake instead, nothing that cuts! This is true. the furminator cuts the guard hairs. They can also pull on the hair too much. I like the undercoat rakes with rotating ends to prevent pulls Oooo I did not know this. I thought it was just raking out the dead hairs from the coat? Hank still has his puppy coat so the shedding nightmare hasn't begun yet
JackC
I believe the furminator works great for certain breeds but the aussie its a big nono to cut any hair. the only time (and this is rare) you would trim an aussie is the belly and around the pants in the middle of summer IF they have a super heavy large coat. LisaCC
Hankodie I'm pretty sure it's the same in regards to Goldies. You don't want to use anything that cuts/tears with a long coated breed.
Steph M
http://www.goldenretrieverforum.com/golden-retriever-puppy-up-1-year/110957-furminator-tool.html I did spot this, maybe that would shed some light? The idea of using it with a light hand seems to make sense, but again I'm no expert!

And their bob tails apparently! Nova has a little bit of hair that splits into two off the end of his bob like a snakes tongue! If I do shows with him I apparently have to trim it I always do any fluffy dogs feet between the paw pads too. Particularly useful for puppies and old dogs on slippery floors for added grip. Lhok
It might be a fluke of luck but Treble actually dropped for me this morning. --Lhok

Guest hankodie
Good job Treble!! Thanks for the info on the furminator - I didn't know it cuts the undercoat! I'll find another brush to use more regularly. I don't brush his coat very much at the moment as it's still quite short. So Hank has decided that he hates his puppy pen. He howls and carries on like he's being tortured. He is persistent! Argh. I know all he wants to do is be near Odie & I which I don't mind, but then he starts initiating play with Odie who promptly tells him off and then I end up trying to work through them growling and tussling and I eventually give up and he goes back in his pen  I know he'll learn eventually, he's slowly mastering "go to your place and stay" so hopefully that will help. I keep taking my camera down to the beach to snap a few photos but I always end up being too busy with puppy wrangling! I shall try to take a few this weekend. Here are some from yesterday - he's catching on that posing means lots of treats!
LisaCC
Nawww! He's getting big! Seriously adorable.
aliwake
You have such a talent with photography - love those shots! Having a gorgeous model helps I'm sure :) Nixon absolutely hated his playpen too - it was better with his crate inside too, but he was never happy, and made the most awful sounding crying noises for hours on end He is a lot happier outside during the day now he's bigger, but I guess if you want Hank to continue to stay inside, he'll just have to get used to it. I know it's so hard to stick to your guns though!! I was just lucky I wasn't home when Nixon was crying, and I could check on him (via webcam) with the sound off, otherwise I would have been a wreck! Guest hankodie
Thanks Lisa & aliwake! ugggh aliwake it's a huge downside of working from home glad to know I'm not alone with the pathetic crying/whinging! I should really just stick him in another room and ignore the crying, he does settle after a while but this morning he carried on for almost 45 mins! My poor neighbours. Odie has learned to just chill out on her bed the entire day while I work (either from home or at the office) so hopefully I can teach Hank to do the same because I adore having them around. I wish he spoke human so I can just tell him "just chill out and you can hang with us!"
LisaCC
I can't help Hankodie, Nova is outside during the day, even if I'm home because he would be when I'm not. Nova has decided to turn into a spitz! He has dug a very shallow ditch and has plonked himself in it
JackC
  gotta love the old shallow ditch resting
Lhok
Nice photos Hankodie! Treb doesn't dig holes :p so more evidence that he could be a broken spitz  he does however rip the buffalo grass runners up and prance around the back yard with them Wish I could help with the play pen thing too, Treb prefers to be outside in his Kennel run I think it is cooler out there for him rather then in the house. Not to mention his kennel run has a sound proof box for sleeping in, pavers to lay on, a tramp bed, a refilling water bucket, a shallow pool for him to go an swim in if the door is open, a grassy run and is all covered by roof that has Tarp on the top then tin, then shade cloth to make it as cool as possible. hmm from reading all that I know why he prefers to stay outside now he practically has a house all to himself. --Lhok
