rangermad Griffin is sooooooooo darling! Look at those eyes!

JackC that's no good to hear, you should probably double check with your vet but every time Odie has eaten something stupid I was advised by my vet to feed a bland diet of boiled chicken & rice for a day or two just to be extra safe. Keep us updated, I'm sure he'll be OK!

Lisa, Nova is gorgeous! I love the pic sitting at the door with the head tilt :)

Hankodie, those pics of Hank were great too. Griffin is hard to photograph...

Smashtank, it looks like Tank enjoyed his day out.

We think Griffin is super cute too! :D

I will put more pics up soon

popped home at lunch to check on Koda and he seems fine, no change in temperament or feelings, as energetic as usual and no loss of appetite with his lunch, I added some plain yoghurt to his lunch and some baked biscuits as this helps him "go" and should help loosen any possible bone issues.

will keep a close eye for a day or two but I think we got lucky and the bones he did get hold of he chewed up enough not to cause any issues, the rest well was just cooked chicken so at least he got a good protein intake for the day.

p.s. clearly I haven't worked on his recall enough, and you guys are all putting me to shame!!

Come join me Ali. :o

Although I do have sit, sort of have drop and stand we can do pretty good...minimal distractions....

Recall? yeah...nah....we have cats that are heaps funner than me.

Us too. We have a good recall for his age, Gus will come back if a dog at the park isn't being TOO fun, otherwise all he needs is you to literally point him in the right direction and he's back focussed. He'll sit, drop, sometimes stay and pee on command but other than that, nada. Hahaha. I'm not too stressed yet. Let him have his fun.

That must be a huge relief JackC!

Yep, Lisa. He's a Vizsla :) He's 11wks now. He changes in appearance every second day I reckon. It's amazing how quickly they grow

All this training talk is interesting. Griffin is getting really good at sitting and will drop when I have a treat, or when he thinks I do. I even did it with my kids running around him today and he was great still. He is getting there with his recall. I can't imagine that he would come from something more interesting at a park yet though - at least it will be a few more weeks till we need to worry about that though.

I have also been told that he isn't suitable for assistance dog material as he is either too headstrong or stupid or both for the role  if that is the case though (we are going to try another trainer) then I will have to look for another dog (any suggestions?) I'll be keeping Treble though too many people have told me that if he isn't going to be an assistance dog to send him back to the breeder but I love him too much plus he makes me laugh :D

Sorry Lhok but any trainer who tells you that your dog is too stupid or stubborn to train is not worth your time or money. There is no such thing as a dog that can't be trained, and it sounds like your requirements for Treble as an assistance dog are fairly basic?

Great pic LP, she looks awesome in her martingale!

I guess you could say that my requirements for Treb are basic, from where I am standing though it looks like the walls of Troy especially since him bombing out under one trainer. He just doesn't listen to anyone.. much my husband can get him to sit sometimes and he for the most part does things for me but when the trainer got on the end of the leash or if anyone else tries he either tries to mouth them or goes "stuff you mate, I'm just going to stand here and do nothing"

I'm not upset with him at all I just don't know where I am going wrong.

Lollipup cute horse and Envy is like Barney from how I met your mother, she never looks bad in photos :) .

Also sorry for monopolising the thread guys.

You're not monopolising Lhok - it's all good!

Treble just still sounds very puppyish to me :)

How did you find the current trainer? Were they recommended, or just local?

Perhaps one of the assistance dog organisations could suggest someone in your area for training?

The problems you are experiencing from what you've described are really common! Even if you don't want to train him as assistance dog and just want a well behaved pet, there's no reason you can't teach him to be more responsive and well mannered, you just need to get the right help so you can be shown how to do it.

It really frustrates me to hear trainers, who as supposed to be professionals, turn around and tell people their dog is untrainable.

I recognise that background. If I see you at the uni with him I'll definitely be coming over for some puppy cuddles!

I go up a couple times a week with him to get used to walking by people, I was going today but it's raining again :(

Feel free to come get cuddles :)

Lokh, don't loose hope on him, I have to agree with huski, Its all in the "way" you train and every dog is different, no one way will suffice for every dog, might pay to contact another trainer in your area and see if they can help out

side note about koda, he is 100% good, pretty sure everything passed through ok, I had to sacrifice a nice smelling house for a day as his farts were utterly outrageous, it was like living with a mobile dumpster

Ok, I've thought of an interesting question - do any or your pups hump in their sleep? Nixon isn't much of a humper when he's awake, but he was asleep in his bed next to the couch the other night, and I thought he started humping (nothing in particular - just the air!), but then my husband got concerned he was having a fit?! He was certainly very deeply asleep, and we had trouble waking him fully to check on him. Was a little weird to be honest. I'm hoping it was just a very interesting dream!!
