dotdashdot
Totally forgot that we had a bit of exciting news this week! I entered Nala in the DogsNSW puppy competition under my husbands name, as if you win you get a year's membership and a goody bag. Well....we won! I used that beautiful shot of Nala on the beach at 8 weeks and answered some questions. For those who are already members, I think we'll be in the January magazine, but we're on the website already http://www.dogsnsw.org.au/puppies/puppy-competition.html now just to wait for our parcel to arrive! Esky the husky
Ooooh how cool. Congrats :) They were great shots on the beach :D
dotdashdot
And some photos.... "I stuck in bed mum" swimming sisters and just a blurry playing shot It's amazing how these two play, Cleo has never played like this with another dog, it's definitely a breed thing! they have their own game that's for sure. When she plays with the mini schnauzer it's bitey face and leg game and when it's the staffy x it's a lie on the ground pawing each other game. With Nala it's jumping and running and biting and play bowing!
Kanae
BLAH! Trying to be on-top of potty training is difficult with a lowrider puppy, the only signal we get is he stands still. I went to brush my hair and thought my bf had taken him out of his pen to potty, come out and he was just giving him cuddles and had put him in, just as I say "he needs to pee" he begins to pee on the towel in the pen. Not angry, but a little frustrated as I really want to be sure he doesn't have accidents in the house. This is the third accident in a week. I guess that is still good? tikira
Congrats to you Dotdashdot, Nala is so beautiful and very photogenic. I feel your pain Kanae. It is the same with our Jack Russell Jingo, you just don't get much warning at all,and it didn't matter that he was within sight of the open sliding door or either of the doggy doors but our saving grace has been he has never had an accident inside his crate or play pen. Quite a few accidents inside though, and to make it worse his stoopid owners took forever to realise he does two poo's in the mornings...... I was, after nine weeks of this, beginning to think he would need to spend his entire life in his play pen, but touch wood, since the end of November he has had no accidents, but we are still paranoid, in fact so much so that he comes outside with you, squats and then runs over for treats- without actually "producing the goods": :D Di
Lollipup
Well done on Nala winning that photo comp! I can see why! She is beautiful! Today I finally got around to making a video of some of the places we took Envy as she was growing up for her socialisation. She was so little back then! Hope you all like it
Zereuloh
I had the same problem when toilet training Tyrion! Really hard to see if he was peeing when he was so low to the ground. lol but, after a while I got to know his particular posture if he was going to the toilet! I'd say your doing wonderfully! We had a lot of accidents here in the early days!
dotdashdot
Well done on Nala winning that photo comp! I can see why! She is beautiful! Today I finally got around to making a video of some of the places we took Envy as she was growing up for her socialisation. She was so little back then! Hope you all like it Thank you! Awesome video, gave me some ideas for Nala. Having her at work means she's met well over 100 people, but i'd like to introduce her to different situations as well, but work + beach + vets are the only places she's really been due to not having her vaccs finished. Today she had her 2nd and final vacc (didn't realize the vet gave her the Novibac until AFTER she'd been injected. Thought they'd ask at least!) so we can get out and about properly in a week and a half. Might take her to the sunday markets, a park etc. I don't have a horse to introduce her to though lol (wish I did, dallies are perfect horse dogs) By then she'll be in her fear period though...did Envy get out and about the whole time? Esky the husky
He's here!! Such a long wait at the airport. I could hear him crying out the back but it took sooo long for them to bring him out He's so small! I took 5 collars with me and he ended up in Esky's baby collar, which looks stupid and is verging on too big. Little bit worried about the amount he's wee-ing. His boy bits seem to 'drip' too. Havn't lived with a boy dog in a loooong time though. Not sure how normal that is?
aliwake
OMG he is super cute! Look at those HUGE feet! Seems like a very happy boy :) Not sure about the dripping. Had he gone in his crate on the flight? Are you planning to have a vet check in the near future? I don't remember dripping with my boy, so it might be worth asking about. He had gone in his crate and twice inside already.. I was waiting until his paperwork got here, as it's being posted and that way I'll know the correct timing for his next vaccs etc. I'll go sooner ( like now) if the dripping is a real concern
aliwake
I would tend to think it'd be ok to just keep an eye on it for a couple of days? But someone else might have a better idea. Boys can just be weird sometimes... For ages ours would pee every time he had a ball in his mouth :) Hopefully it's not a problem, but baby puppies are such a worry! dotdashdot
Gorgeous boy :) I've never had a boy so can't help with that, but I took Nala to the vet the day after we picked her up. It was just a general check up, obviously it was the first time i'd seen her (i.e breeder not local, like in your case) and I wanted my own vet to check over her. They checked heart, joint movement, bite and temperature, just peace of mind. My breeder has a thing too that if you visit the vet in the first 3 days and find a problem, you can refund or something. If i'd not taken her then, it would have been today, 3 weeks later that my first vet visit would have been scheduled (for her 2nd vac)
Leah82
I've met a number of boy puppies that were prone to excitement piddles, what's his demeanor like when he's dripping?
Mim
Excitement urination is something puppies can do and grow out of it but dripping sounds like he could have a UTI maybe? He is soooo cute EtH! What does Esky think of him?
Esky the husky
She's not very impressed that I brought this thing into her palace. I'm a little surprised actually. :/ This pup has such prey drive and such a ridiculously strong grip on the toys. It's pretty awesome to have a dog that likes toys! Half tempted to send an email off to k9pro to see if this is something I can use to help with racing and weightpull :)
Lhok
With the dripping I would just kept an eye on it and see if it goes away in a few days. Baby puppies do wee a fair amount, the main worry with kidney issues which weeing lots can indicate goes hand in hand with excessive drinking so if he isn't drinking heaps. I would keep and eye on it and have a chat to a vet about it. --Lhok
luvsdogs
Esky your pup is gorgeous, I love the leaping last photo! Me too. Those ears & paws, will be awhile before he grows into them. Great pics of Nala & video of Envy too.
Kanae
great video lollipup what an amazing pup :) Esky your new pup is gorgeous! I had a situation today I took Ezio out the side of our house (we have a small walkway and a landstrip behind our house) for some leash training, just back and forth to teach loose lead walking and as I went onto the land strip the bogan neighbours who live 10 houses from us (we live in a townhouse complex) had left their two untrained and unsocialized dogs running around off-lead without supervision! Before I knew it I had one of them charging towards us barking it's head off making a bee line, the only thing I could do was pick up Ezio and walk away calmly and hope the dog didn't follow (thankfully it didn't). I felt Ezio stiffen in my arms and when I got into the walkway to my house where it was safe and put him down he was visibly anxious and trying to run away, I had to coax him back to me, pat him and treat him for staying close to me to get him to calm down. I really tried to stay calm and reassuring in the situation, but I think I might have handled it wrong by picking him up and walking away, I really didn't want to risk him getting a negative experience with other dogs. I am very angry at myself and the idiot neighbour who didn't contain his dogs. I didn't even know they were there as they were behind the tree/bush feature and while I was focusing on Ezio they must have come out and seen us. Now Ezio is showing fear signs, I hit the shed by accident, a noise I previously desensitized him to and he jumped away, I had to re-introduce him to banging on the shed I hope I haven't destroyed his confidence from this situation.
