Couple of things I would try...one is the waiting game...and then when he hauls butt give him heaps of praise and reward. The other would be to find something that motivates him (food, squeaky toy, tug toy) and when it looks like he is about to drop his butt...but hasn't dropped his butt yet... I would let him know that you had some pretty cool items on your person that only dogs who keep their tushies moving will get. Something else I would try, is to take him to places that are interesting so he'll want to keep moving if he expects to see it all. I hope some of that made sense. I'm really spoilt, Willow is a dream on the lead. Sometimes she will stop, but that is usually in response to something she hasn't seen before or isn't 100% sure of. When she has it sussed out she gets going again, usually with a little mad dash to the next exciting adventure. Steph M Posted June 19, 2013 Share Posted June 19, 2013 We had our first puppy school adventure last night. I don't know who was more tired after tbh. Gus was the ratbag of the class. Immediately honed in on a GR the same size and age and they proceeded to roll all over each other and chew on eyes, ears and tails and throw each other around. He then turned his attention to a lovely little Aus Shep, who was behaving like a dream til Gus wound her up to the point she just sat and yapped the rest of the class, so the three of them set about corrupting everyone, by the end of it he was asleep in my lap while everyone else carried on. Oh the shame! Still, I like that he's outgoing and friendly, he climbed into a little kids lap and licked her mercilessly while she donked him on the head with a rope toy (my sister is actually in labour as we speak, so best get used to kids I guess? I don't think he even noticed tbh. He seemed thrilled in the attention) The woman who runs it said he was a lot of fun and very responsive, even when he was in full ratbag mode. And he did back off when someone didn't want to play. She called him 'the motivator' I think she really meant 'instigator' I don't know how much he'll learn, given he's just so excited about the other dogs but we got the best sleep ever last night! I'm happy if he has fun and meets new people and pups. We do a bit of training at home and have an appt to join the obedience club before too long. He was better this morning. We talked about it in puppy class last night and I decided this morning to do no pulling on the lead and praise like crazy when he walks after sitting. He also am trying to use 'lets go' and make lots of happy noises to get him to come with me. Will keep going with him - I forgot to take treats with me this morning so it was like he kept looking for a reward and then realised I had none... The rain didn't make things easier either!!!!!! He was only recalling because I had a fistful of liver treats and then he'd be off again. All well and good but he was on lead and being a total monkey! First time he'd seen a lot. There's about 8 in the class and his eyes about bugged out of his head. He hangs out with mum's dogs sometimes, met my Aunty's Westie last week for a good play. But en masse and puppies, it was like Christmas had come early. She's having a girl. It's been quite interesting. But such a relief they've found something, because now they can fix it quickly, and I'm sure he will be absolutely fine. Nixon had an overnight stay at the vets when he was about 11 weeks? Three things have popped out, 1. Something from under the deck that we couldn't see that was there, 2. Tennis ball fluff although all his balls are accounted for and all of them have the fluff on them. 3. If he disappears under the deck he gets recalled out as soon as he goes in. We can't put anything up to stop him from going under the deck at the moment which is why it is supervise or no outside time. If it is the canvas then I am ripping it off the run tonight, the chew marks are in an area where we can't get to but a puppy could and that's why I think it that is the culprit. They seem to know exactly what they should be doing and try to hide it from you accordingly. You're being a wonderful owner by getting him looked after properly.
