whippytails
Well done Cassie and Sumo on having another great day out. No doubt you both are a little on the tired side. Sounds like the Rotti specialty would have been very interesting to watch and listen to all the judges comments. Glad Willow had a good time out and about visiting and get cuddles. Steph Gus is really lovely. Look at those gorgeous eyes. Seems like he was a hit at his puppy warming, and looks great in his new jacket. Jack hows Koda going? Misteri
Aww Koda is so cute :) Congrats on your showing successes Cassie! Tango and I also showed over the weekend, we got Baby Puppy of Breed in a very competitive field of one! No luck in group, the adorable baby Cocker Spaniels and Labradors are very tough to beat! Next week we go up to Minor Puppy *gulp* Hope you all enjoyed your weekend with your puppies! Dory, sounds like you had lots of fun at the Rottie show. I like that they give critique for each dog... at the all breeds show they just pick the one they like and you have no idea why.
cassie
I actually saw a Toller baby on the weekend and was quite smitten! She was a real cutie as is Tango :) Good luck in Minor! We have another show on this Saturday.
cassie
I have discovered (actually OH discovered) that Sumo loves playing fetch with a tennis ball! I have never heard of a Saint Bernard who enjoyed fetching! He is hilarious to watch, we only play inside on the carpet with him and roll or bounce the ball a small distance, but he goes hurtling after it with his big ears flapping wildly and practically tripping over his big paws  it's so cute! And he has been known to bash into a wall or two when he couldn't stop!
Justrace
Oh cassie you really need to put a video up of that hehehehehe Murphy is almost 6 months, we've stopped going to dog school at the moment and have started having one on one lessons from a trainer. What a massive difference it has made. I have zero focus when we are out and just in two weeks are able to get so much more from him out the front of our house - even manage to call him off the cat I think I was expecting so much from him after having our beautiful old girl, you forget what puppies are like and it must be so much harder for him be raised in a house with 3 young, loud, fast kids. Something that my old girl didn't have to deal with until she was much older & already well trained. I love reading about all these puppies - well done to everyone that has done so well at shows. cassie
I should definitely film it, good idea! Murphy sounds like he's coming along great now, isn't it amazing what a few lessons with someone really knowledgeable can achieve :) A quick pic of Sassy (left) and Sumo (right) from the weekend:
whippytails
They are both just so beautiful. I noticed there was a show trolley for sale in SA on the classifieds on the home page Cassie, it doesnt say the size but thought it might be of interest to you :)
cassie
Thanks for thinking of me :) I have actually been looking there too as I want a grooming table (and a hydrobath, and a dryer!) Haha seems like there's no limit if you really want to go all out. I keep telling Josh, once I've got everything it really isn't a very expensive hobby. Little does he know I don't think the day will ever come when I have everything!

I keep thinking with just one dog, I shouldn't need too much...then I think, Oh...hang on...there's Dory too. (No show without Punch, so they say). I haven't even contemplated my logistics yet. Grooming utensils will be easy, not a lot of grooming required. Although, there is that issue with trimming tail and britches. But then I start to think, I don't like that over trimmed look.... Argh!!!!!!!!!!! ETA...Cute babies. :D ATM I'm liking Sumo's more squarish 'boy' head. Edited June 17, 2013 by Dory the Doted One

Little does he know I don't think the day will ever come when I have everything! Dont worry I am the same, I also said that to mine. He did a 12 hours overtime and worked the public holiday last week, so he said I can see alot of purchases happening this week. I think I will actually save it and start putting it towards a car for showing. I just want one that I can take to shows, leave my stuff in and not overly worry about it. Dory I agree with you I am also liking Sumos head better but I have no idea what the standard says so its purely just my personal preference. I also wont have alot of grooming so just went with the show trolley will use it as needed. Dont forget the show case for all the grooming supplies. Has anyone bought any show leads yet? Thats next on my list but not sure what colour I will end up with makes it hard to purchase leads.
cassie
I didn't even know Rotties got trimmed! But yes when you start dreaming big you can get a little carried away, I do anyway Especially now that I've been bitten by the showing bug! Hey how did Willow's Dad go on Sunday? I prefer Sumo's head too, so does Sassy's mum, but then again we both expected that purely because he's a male. There are features on Sassy that I prefer over Sumo though. If I could grab parts a, b, c off him and d, e, f off her, I think I'd have the perfect pup! (I'm kidding really, he's perfect as he is :p )
cassie
Has anyone bought any show leads yet? Thats next on my list but not sure what colour I will end up with makes it hard to purchase leads. On the weekend I used a basic black material lead with a loop in it, about $6 worth. I didn't know what to buy first up so purposely got something cheap and simple. I need something stronger though which will give me more control, so plan on buying a light snake chain/choker before this Sat, again nothing too pricey because his neck is forever expanding! Some of the fancy show leads are really pretty, but I can see us sticking to basic black. Can't really picture a big male dog with jewels on his lead, I think Josh would shoot me :)
Misteri
Show leads - I bought a purple show lead, it's pretty lightweight. It has a loop at each end, and at the dog end there's a bead you push down to make it the right size. We used that for training in the cul de sac on our street. At our first show I bought a gold chain and a goldy brown leash that attaches to the chain. I'm not a gold person, but the colour looks good with Tango's coat. Some of the ones with beads are pretty nice, but I like subtle better. Either buy a colour that contrasts well, or a colour that blends in with your dog, or a colour that complements what you'll be wearing. Little does he know I don't think the day will ever come when I have everything! I think I'm almost there! I've got my dryer now and my trolley should be delivered today. I bought a show suit over the weekend too. I would like to get a lightweight jacket for Tango because he is suffering rather badly from puppy ripples in his coat... but I think I have everything else that I need, for now at least! whippytails
I might was going to order when I knew what colour puppy I would be getting but might wait until we hit the ring. I got a call earlier to say my trolley is in town and I can pick it up or they will deliver it Thursday but I think I might pick it up from town this afternoon when I take the girls to dancing. My list so far is Dryer - I bought it off buy swap and sell locally for $20 its an older liberty one and nothing fancy Show Trolley - OKS two berth with wheels that have brakes Martingale soft leads for everyday walking Bengo Crate Bed for Crate from The Reject Shop Teeth cleaning gel from US This week I might order my stamp to make handstamped name tags or a grooming box, not sure yet. whippytails
yes yes I did, its old and redy/brown colour and its only cold but it will do the job ( not sure if its necessary but it was too good a bargain to pass up)
cassie
I'll say!!! Bargain of the year, lucky you. Dryers are so good for coated breeds, trying to decide how much I can justify spending on one...
smashtank
Second night of puppy school tonight! Here is a picture of Tank from the weekend... Question re walking... So Tank has decided that he no longer likes to walk. He was doing fine for a week. But now he walks like 10 meters and then either plonks his butt down or spatchcocks himself on the footpath and refuses to walk. Any tips? It's weird - the first week he loved it. Now he seems to hate it. He does walk off lead - he trots along behind me or he stops and sniffs and then catches up.
