White Shepherd mom
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with Kenzie. It breaks your heart to see them in pain despite all your efforts. Casper goes to underwater treadmill therapy every week to two weeks. I use two different therapists and the one suggested I buy a kiddies wading pool, fill it with water (the same height as in the treadmill) and do some sessions with him. I haven't done it as there is no way he'll ever get in voluntarily and there's no way I can pick him up. Thought I'd mention it though in case you want to try it with Kenzie. Good luck. ness
What frustrates me OSS is the specialist considers her LH a surgery success = hmmmm doesn't not instill me will huge levels of confidence considering how much of a problem its remained for her in the last year. Interesting White Shepherd mum re the kiddie pool. Kenz would probably not want to get out again and I would end up having 0.5cm twigs deposited in my lap and then her looking wishful at the pool the rest of the time . ness
Kenz had UWTM session number 10 today. Still frustrated by the fact they won't seem to up the duration of her sessions by much but she did ok again today. She got a whole extra 45 seconds of treadmill time . At least she didn't get away with cheating quite so much today we upped the treadmill speed a bit and there was no front paws on the front of the machine like there was on Tuesday. She had totally fresh batteries by the time we had finished the session and was ready for a walk and a game = HMMMMMMMM somehow I don't think we really did enough but hopefully its still helping a bit. Thanks to the generosity of some DOL'ers who have already mostly outed themselves in another thread she has another 4 sessions to go. I owe you guys as I almost certainly wouldn't have been able to continue with anymore for the immediate future. Kenz sends out a huge thanks as well :). And a few more fan club photos :). ness
Today was session 11, the first of her donated sessions and finally she actually got some reasonable time in the treadmill. I didn't even have to push for it the comment was has she got to 4 minutes a session yeah and I was like nope we haven't really progressed. We also managed to up the speed a little bit too . Will have to review the video to see how she was doing but she didn't seem to be overly trouble by the increased length and came home as feral and ready for action as after her shorter sessions. Thanks again .
BC Crazy
Great news ness.. What a lovely way for Kenzie to kick off her very kindly donated UWT sessions :) Edited June 17, 2013 by BC Crazy
OSoSwift
Awww what lovely people we have on DOL. Glad this session was better for her. Lets hope the next three are as successful.
ness
Today was session 12 - she got 3 x 5 min sessions at a reasonable speed - yee har. Progress at last. Much less double stepping and mostly just nice walking . Think next time she might need it a little faster though watching the video back.
ness
So after a run of reasonably "good" days, her run decided to come to an end tonight when she was walking in the backroom and managed to have the patella on her "good" repaired leg luxate . Poor girl was in serious pain biting her leg and whimpering again. . One huge frigging mess.
ness
so what we are facing at the moment is another 4 months crate rest post surgery x 2 - never mind finding the dollars .
Cosmolo
Oh Ness.. i don't know what to say. What would the prognosis be for such surgery?
ness
Well prognosis would be she could resume doing fun things to the extent which her BC Collapse issue presents as a problem or not. Given she is having issues with both patellas first surgery would be to go in and stabilise the right so she had a "good" leg. Then if everything goes to plan 8 weeks later go in and redo the left repair. She would be scheduled to have x-rays at 4 weeks post-op on the first leg and pending outcome of that be allowed to do some underwater treadmill at that stage so we don't end up with the huge muscle wastage and issues she suffered with the first repair failing. ness
Oh boy I thought I was going to have a battle on my hands today - they tried to make her first session 3 minutes again I went excuse me we have been doing much longer then that . So Kenz got her 3 reasonable length sessions again at a slightly faster rate. Not sure she was coping as well as she has previously though. Last session on Friday and then I have to work out what the plan is from here given she is battling.

ness
Urgh - I thought I was imagining some front end lameness over the weekend but went out this morning tracking with my oldie and had a few others look at Kenz moving and they definitely think she is carrying her front right a little bit. I can't take a bloody trick with this dog I really can't.
luvsdogs
Poor Kenz & poor you, ness. I really feel for both of you. It's just not fair. I know how painful a LP must be as my kneecap has dislocated a few times & it is excruciating.
