Oh ness, I've just caught up with all the latest on Kenz :( What a nightmare for you both! I'm afraid I have nothing useful to contribute, but just wanted to add my support and best wishes, and hope that you start to see some light at the end of tunnel soon :grouphug:

Well she managed to get up the stairs tonight after work so that is something. Fed her, came up the stairs, got busy doing stuff (normally she gets up an impatient dance on the bottom stair and won't come up), well next thing she had managed to get up the stairs .

Sorry it's not helping ness. I have watched the videos and am far from an expert even 18 months in - but they do look quite different to Issy's sessions in the following ways:

1. Issy started with the water much higher - I don't know if it's the angle of the camera but pretty much all of Kenz's body seems to be out of the water - the buoyant part of the jacket is barely getting wet, do you think they are taking enough weight off her legs? Issy was virtually swimming to start with.

2. It seems to stop and start a lot - and it seems to stop with quite a jerk too, is that just the treadmill or do they just switch it straight off? The place we use it just slows really gradually to a stop.

3. Issy started with guide ropes front and back that attached to both sides of the treadmill to help steady her and keep her gait balanced.

It also still looks really slow to me, almost like she can't step out and stretch because she is being forced to move but only in baby steps if that makes sense? Has your guy in the states seen the video?

Hope the specialist can help.

We have been dropping water level so she is walking not swimming - hence also starting the treadmill while the water is low to encourage walking.

And yep speed has been mentioned but the vet is convinced she double steps less at a lower speed hence why he seems to want to run it slow . She came up lame after session 6 which was run at 1.5 MPH.

 somebody did the stairs twice this morning of her own accord and jumped on the bed for morning cuddles without needing to be invited . Sooo happy. She hasn't done the stairs again since though but thats ok I guess baby steps.

She thought she was pretty awesome stuff as she was also allowed to do some balance disc/peanut work again and start on walking over baby cavaletti's.

Uploaded some of my in between session footage from Monday. Not sure if its "normal" or whether its worth flicking through to the specialist. Same day she ended up coming up lame on her RH after her treadmill time.

Have just been back over all her other sessions and she never holds the RH up to that level in any of the others. Not sure if its significant or not though.

So this morning it was back to the specialist - I guess the "good" news is that the rest of her isn't falling any further apart. She finally has some decent muscle back on her front end and no hint of anything the matter there.

The bad news - yes the RH has deteriorated further then it was in January (didn't get a grading though) and yes she still has a residual grade 1 MPL on her LH but he did feel that had improved. So the main goal now is to focus on getting her so she can manage a walk around the block. The days of thinking that she may get back into the trial ring are all but over. Not even holding out hope for obedience these days unfortunately.

Will continue with the UWTM sessions since she has a few left to use of the last lot we have bought.

Completely devastated doesn't half describe how I am feeling .

Oh Ness. After everything you've done for Kenz, I keep popping in here to read about a miraculous recovery. You've been working so hard to help her and I can't even begin to imagine how you're feeling.

I just want you to know that I'm thinking about you and Kenzie and I have all digits crossed for daily improvement.

Oh Ness, I feel for you. I have kept tabs on poor Kenzie's on going saga but I don't say much. It is so much like the the road we have travelled with Koori. Koori like Kenzie was meant to be my UD dog. You will have a UD dog just not this one but Kenzie will always be special and her legacy and everything she has taught you with her training and health will always be with you. I wish I could find something comforting to say, but I know from experience that it just bloody sucks and there's nothing anyone can say that makes you feel any better. Go give your sweet, special girl a hug and take pleasure in the brilliant little personality she is. And hold on tight to your dreams... one day they will come.

Whilst you feel very sad about it, try not to get yourself worked up any further - you already knew there was patella luxation in both knees - the grade doesn't really matter, getting it surgically fixed does, and the right technique is more important to focus your energies on.

There are plenty of dogs who've had bilateral cruciate repair or bilateral patella repairs (not just a tie-back) heck, we've even done bilateral patella repair on a cat! I'm pretty certain it climbs trees now! They lead good lives. Agility - maybe not, but with the correct rehab Obedience is certainly possible. So she may not ever run around like a crazy idiot BC - she may well get back to walking a few k's, and lots of swimming.

Is there any crepitus in the joints? I'd be more concerned about that.

Get the knees fixed, first one, then the other when you can. Do the worst one first.

No crepitus. No effusion. No swelling felt. Joints all felt good apparently. Just the luxation issue. Surgery was not discussed. She was moving like a dream this morning.

Obedience is to much of a risk because of the exercise induced collapse condition.

The hard and most frustrating part is keeping her from being a pest because she has energy and enthusiasm to burn and not using it constructively for anything because I can't channel it constructively. All that energy was channeled into her obedience and it meant she settled and wasn't a constant hassle to Ness and wasn't busy being a brat. Without that (and she isn't a food dog so food puzzle toys aren't of value really) I am left managing bored dog. Not to mention the fact that she then runs the risk of finding her own things to get worked up over and therefore run herself into collapse issues when I am not around (and yes as you know SnT that has happened before).

She has already run me into trouble with the neighbours for a "small" amount of barking. It really was token but they seem to be dead set on suggesting its a nuisance and making trouble for me with council. Really feel so caught between a rock and a very hard place :(.
