Rosetta
Sorry ...did I touch a nerve or something I was just saying that it was nice to see that stated - people would find that reassuring. There have been a few threads recently about really dodgy "rescue" groups so I suppose it does hit a nerve, but just because there are a lot of passionate people involved in rescue here :) It's unfortunate that it does seem like a really extra-positive thing when a rescue will take a dog back if something goes wrong, because that should be the default position in my opinion! I didn't see it as an "extra positive" - just that it was stated up front. I don't doubt that most rescues will take dogs back but rescue groups should understand that the average person perusing the advertisements may not understand how rescue operates and what are standard policies etc. I see it as a good thing to give some prominence to that aspect. :)
Loving my Oldies
I understand your point, Rosetta, but it is something I wouldn't be making a point of until an adoption was pretty well a fait accompli. Of course, if the rescuer's antennae are well developed, a time waster would have been pretty quickly sussed, but I would be a wee bit concerned that an adopter might go in first instead of last with the idea that, well we'll give it a try and if it doesn't work out we can always take "it" back. To have doubts is normal, but to have uppermost in one's mind that the dog can always be returned, doesn't strike me as a healthy attitude. A bit like saying to the marriage celebrant: if the marriage doesn't work we can always get divorced. :) :)
mita
http://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/221166 Don, that little lady is just your kind of little doggie. She's extraordinarily beautiful & sweet. I understand the feeling, tho', as a fellow Breed Tragic.... when you can't have another.

Exactly. :) Unfortunately not everyone knows if they are adopting from a rescue who rehome and run, saying your policy on returns is a must even if it's just to educate people on what to look for. So it might, sound a little negative to say it up front although at the same time, you're also selecting the right home (with methods some may call OTT) because you know it's best for the dog to not bounce back. Still, some adopters look at you like you're a little nutty suggesting they'd ever part with their new doggy bless 'em  at least it's a safety net.
