I love how some of the lost and found groups on Facebook have been so effective in getting animals home quickly. In some cases lost then found and home again in less than an hour.

Lost Dogs of Adelaide is the only one posted so far that non-Facebook subscribers can open.

You have to be on Facebook to open Newcastle & Central Coast.

For lost & found pets, it'd be a good idea if you didn't have to be on Facebook to open. Adds more people who can access.

I have personal experience with Central Coast Lost and Found animals - they found my brother's dog within 4 hours of putting her up, and I also have seen MANY people reunited with thier animals quickly - it is a fantastic resource - I even once saw this poor girl who had lost her cat running around in the rain desperately putting up flyers - i pulled over and told her about the FB page, and bam within 3 hours the cat was back at her home.

It would be good, but at least this will help those who are on facebook.

 It is also good that our area is so proactive on microchipping. Regular free chipping days plus $5 chipping all year round at one of the pounds. :D

The Lost Dogs of Adelaide link is broken.

You'll need to open the page and copy and paste from the address bar. The forums shorten the link so copying and pasting from posts doesn't always work. smile.gif

Fixed :)

i didn't mean it as a criticism... but just that it's such a great idea it'd be good if lost & found sites could be open to non-Facebook members, too. So If anyone has connections with these sites .... please ask them to open them up, like the Adelaide one.

Not taken as one. It would be great if all of the groups were as easily accessible as the Adelaide one. I am not up with the ins and outs of webpages so I guess there must be a reason why they choose one style over another. Maybe easier to moderate and keep spammers out?

That is a good set up, I wonder if Petrescue etc would support doing something like that on a State by State basis. I have no idea what it would cost an individual to set up and run a similar site.

ETA

My local council has no interest in setting up a proper pound website let alone one for lost and found animals.

It is good, Gill. Pity that it isn't done in other states as well. So handy for there to be a central place.

I still think there's a big place for the Facebook ones that are local area... like the Central Coast, Orange etc. Very good for reaching people specifically in that area ... and quickly.

I keep an eye on the RSPCA Qld one .... for missing or found Tibetan Spaniels. If there's one... I then put it on the Tibbie Pet list, because the breed fanciers know what to look out for. Just found one, in fact.
