RiverStar-Aura
My friend owns an ageing, overweight kelpie x and she's just texted me saying the poor thing has now collapsed twice when she gets over-excited when guests arrive at her house. I've advised a vet visit ASAP but I thought I'd post here too looking for possible causes. I've read about exercise induced collapse, however this seems to affect younger dogs such as labs, but my instant reaction was a heart problem -- especially because of her weight and age. Could something like diabetes also cause collapsing?
espinay2
Whatever it is, it needs a vet to examine it and make a diagnosis. Too many things it 'might' be.
RiverStar-Aura
That's what I told my friend to do. Book her into the vet ASAP. Turns out since Friday she's done nothing and has only now (after midnight here) posted on FB that something's not right with her dog and she'll call the vet first thing in the morning. I would've been on the phone to the vet as soon as my dog collapsed. I guess there are different levels of concern
RiverStar-Aura
My friend's dog has been X-rayed and it turns out the dear girl has a tumour on her lung. She's heading up to a specialist on Monday so I have my fingers crossed for a good result.

My girl only had a week from diagnosis and if I had the time over again, I would have given her wings even sooner.
RiverStar-Aura
That's not reassuring news If her girl can't be saved it'll break her heart. She gets so attached to all her animals and it nearly kills her every time she loses a rat. This has hit her so hard
Her Majesty Dogmad
My friend's dog has been X-rayed and it turns out the dear girl has a tumour on her lung. My girl only had a week from diagnosis and if I had the time over again, I would have given her wings even sooner. This happened to me. A friend rang to ask about her friend's dog who'd just been diagnosed with the same thing. I said please tell them not to wait, I got the diagnosis and didn't accept it, thought it couldn't be right and 2 days later my poor girl had a terrible night before we got to the vet, it was the end. I should have let her go on the same day.

RiverStar-Aura
Within an hour of my friend calling and saying she's riddled with cancer, I get a call back from her saying the gorgeous girl has died. We were talking on the phone about knowing when it would be time because Chase was still happy, bouncy, bright eyed and eating. That's when the call happened an hour later. Be at peace darling girl!!
