coogie
MBRC look to be heading like lemmings down the BSL route. Some of the comments are horrifying - interestingly it states there are only 13 registered pit bull terriers in the council area. A quick drive round D'Bay by the ACO's would soon find a few hundred more. Yet more unenforceable laws I fear, they can't police the legislation they have. http://www.couriermail.com.au/questnews/moreton/ban-on-dangerous-dogs-to-take-effect-in-moreton-bay-region/comments-fn8m0yu3-1226566167501?pg=2 Edited February 1, 2013 by coogie
Little Gifts
I just read this and was going to post a link! This following quote from the Mayor got me - how many Tosa's and Dogo's even exist in Australia let alone Moreton Bay? I've never seen either breed in person and don't recall them being in the news for vicious attacks?? "I shudder when I see these dogs walking along the bike paths. In a suburban built-up area like Moreton Bay, breeds like the Japanese Tosa and Dogo Argentino, this is not the place for them.''
coogie
Our Division 5 Councillor, James Houghton was the only objector and even that seemed only to be based on the fact he thought identification would be too hard and that the Council would leave themselves open to litigation. I was speaking to a friend earlier who is the owner of a bull breed rescue boy. The "type" standards that other BSL councils use could have been written whilst looking at a photo of her boy even though his registration is as a mastiff cross. She is very worried. Hopefully the "grandfather law" they are talking about will cover him, plus they are very responsible so he is never likely to be roaming. I think the fact that Oswald flattened so many fences (even our rock solid 6 foot colour bond had a wobbly panel) around here this past weekend has even responsible owners nervous about an accidental escape and what could now be potentially deadly consequences. I have never seen either a Tosa or a Dogo wandering along a bike path in Moreton Shire. I think Tosa have been banned sine the nineties not sure about the Dogo. I would be surprised if that particular person can see much of anything on a bike path, his head is so firmly up his backside.
BlackJaq
Yea, let's also bring back the rule where they chop off your hand if you are caught stealing! Welcome to the Medieval Circus!
zeebie
Before ANY dog breed is banned how about they employ all those made redundant to actually get out and enforce the law regarding dogs in public i.e. actually on a lead and being controlled by a responsible person not a young child who has not got a chance of containing a dog if it becomes excited. They could also start checking on households to ensure dogs are registered and suitably contained, not as is the case in my area where at any given time of day several can be found wandering and scavanging around the neighbourhood while owners at work, and good little puppy safe and sound asleep back in yard when master comes home
melzawelza
As I said when I shared this on facebook, looks like Moreton Bay really want to be spending tens of thousands in legal fees when they lose in court just like Gold Coast City Council did.
