Iskiea
Not sure if this is the place for it but I've got to get my Dog's elbows and hips done as well as his DNA testing and his eyes tested. I'm looking for vets who do this in Canberra and roughly how much it's going to cost so I know how much it's going to be. Any help would be great. espinay2
ACES eye exams - the eye specialists come to Canberra periodically to do these to the vet clinics in Kippax and Lyneham (Canbera Vet Hospital on the corner of Northbourne and Barton Hwy). you need to contact one or both to sort out an appointment for eye cert (they tend to have the specialists there on different days and only make appts for their own clinic). DNA testing can be done with any vet. You need to order the kit through the testing company - they send the kits and you take it to your vet. Quite a few vets will do hip and elbow x-rays - as I don't get mine done in Canberra I will leave it up to others to recommend. The answer will vary depending on whether you plan to do PennHIP or AVA. Note you may want to see if you can get this thread moved to either the health or breeding forums. Flippy Dog
I had a female rottie hip, elbow and eye tested at the Kippax Vets in Canberra a few years ago now. Not sure if its the same eye test these days, back then it was simply the vet ticking off yes or no on the form for a few different questions about the eyes. Hips and elbows was x-rays under anaesthetic and the expensive bit. That cost about $600 and was around three years ago, not cheap but worth it depending on why you need it done. Kippax and Canberra Vet Hospital I believe are linked with each other. I think I had PennHp done but they were in the process of being trained or approved (whatever it was) for the newer testing which I assume is the AVA espinay2 mentions. Hope you have found a vet already :)
Bjelkier
I had hips and elbows done recently at West Queanbeyan for under $
*kirty*
They don't just 'tick off yes or no on a form' with regard to the eyes. The pupils are dilated, the entire eye is examined including the back of the eye and the eyelids and the results are record. The ACES exam can only be done by an accredited eye specialist. espinay2
Also note that PennHIP is the 'newer' testing system - it requires three x-ray views rather than the just one as required by the AVA scheme (Willis system) which has been around for years. The PennHIP x-rays need to be done by a vet trained in that system and they need to be sent to the US (UPenn) for scoring. Tthe AVA ones need to be submitted to a scorer in Australia (either at random through the AVA or directly to a scorer of your choice).
