Upgrade To Show Trolley Or Grooming Table With Wheels?

Hi Everyone

I'll be returning to showing later in the year with my new Affie puppie after a long time off and I'm keen to upgrade my old gear for some new easier to handle stuff. I appreciate these new items are going to be a big investment but I'm quite handy with the old welding skills so I'm keen to build my own in the time before puppy arrives.

So I'd love some thoughts and opinions on which set up you think is better and which is most suitable for a larger breeds:

1. Show trolley - folding with grooming top and off road type wheels

2. Grooming Table with wheels - used as trolley to cart around folding crate, chair, grooming bag and assorted junk

3. Old school method of folding grooming table and folding crate - lot of trips from the car and one tired handler!

Any thoughts and ideas would be most appreciated.

Thanks

I have big dogs so don't use the trolley for them BUT i use my trolley all the time for carting the gear & using it at the show .I think they are one of the most must have items no matter what breed you have in making life easier

Definately trolley :) I upgraded from by heavy 20 year old trolley a few months ago to a big light weight aluminum one. Its higher, so for me thats great! Its strong enough to cart all the stuff. Its big enough for my male std poodle to stretch out comfortably too :D

Its also in the lounge room in the corner as a crate!!....The cats have taken over the top as their fav place to hang out...

For rainy days and muddy grounds, you'll be glad you got a trolley. On bad weather days I'd throw the Afghan in the trolley and push them to the ring. It would be a huge effort, but so is carrying them.

I have a table with wheels but I use that most when I'm flying around with my small dogs. At a regular show you can fill the trolley up with stuff to set up camp, then walk the Afghan over (in good weather).

Thanks for all the replies - I thought trolley would be the answer too but it's nice to have it confirmed.

For those with aluminium ones do you find they are strong enough for the larger breeds - I've heard stories of twisting and warping over time? I'd like to make an aluminium one just to keep it lighter but might use panels with ventilation holes as walls rather than vertical bars for extra rigidity.

I'll get my designing hat on and keep you posted on the progress - thanks again.

interesting they are so popular in Aus (the trolleys) the popular set up here is to have separate trolly base, crates and table or table top - i;ve seen to many people struggle to push the trolleys over rough ground and they are next to impossible in muddy conditions to move.

Becks - I too have noticed how many tables with wheels there are in the UK and the US and that's why I thought it was worth asking which was preferable - Knowing how muddy it can get here in New Zealand I had thought that all terrain tyres would be a good idea if I do go ahead with the trolley idea. Also, I'm not so fussed about showing in awful weather so have a bit of habit in staying in bed on those horrible days :p

When you say "tables and table tops" are you referring to grooming tops to crates? I'm always amazed at how few grooming tops to crates are available or even tables that are designed to have crates fit under them - seems logical to me but grooming table manufacturers insist on using hinges that won't let big crates fit under.

Thanks for the input
