Clancy's Mum
I have a new whippet pup who is now 12 weeks old. She used to use a soft crate to sleep in when we first bought her home however has now outgrown this. I am seeking advice on soft crate v wire crate and also what size so I will not have to purchase another when she is fully grown. We currently have her in an open pillow type bedding and she seemed to settle more when she had a roof over her head in the soft crate although she does sleep inside the house anyway. Any advice please.
Tassie
Try PMing Haredown Whippets - one of the resident Whippet experts - or ask in the Whippet Breed Subforums - a subforum in General. Whippet sub-forum Bet your puppy is very, very cute - people will want to see photos :D .
Dogsfevr
I prefer wire to the soft crates & long time survival. I have both & all are trained but i do find the soft crates require fixing alot more . Size is up to you if crating will be a long term fixture & an item you will take away & use on other occasions then i prefer to go bigger for comfort . If its just for sleeping then you can look more true to size. Size comes down to your dog though there are some small dainty whippets out there & some monster s
CollieChaos
I personally prefer wire, not just for durability, but for sanitary reasons also, its a lot easier to clean and disinfect wire and plastic than it is canvas :) I got my crate for my Border Collie from Pet Barn, they are reasonably cheap there, and pretty sturdy. WreckitWhippet
Get a 36 inch wire crate, she won't outgrow that size. I've found my 30inch crates are too small for the mature Whippets.
Clancy's Mum
Thanks everyone ill start to look around in the shops now I have a few ideas. Although she is so snugly it's going to be hard not to let her in my bed. (I know it's not a good idea and anyway hubby said NO)
WreckitWhippet
Whippets prefer to sleep on the bed and there's nothing wrong with that, they are clean by nature and don't take up much room.
