Taking A Dogs Temperature

This may seem a bit silly, but do i need a long thin thermometer? and how far in should it go?

My BT had to be taken to the vets whilst in kennels this week, her temp was really high and she wouldn't eat, vomited and so my vet collected her.

She had bloods done and her liver was inflamed.

I picked her up when i got back last night, with new antibiotics.

They said her temp had gone down, and she needs another blood test in a week to make sure its nothing sinister, we are hopeing its that she has eaten something that has irritated her liver.

She is flat this morning, although has eaten, and panting, so i wanted to take her temp ( vets are closed today).

I have the kids thermometer ,which is digital, but rather large.

I use a normal slim thermometer and put some vaseline on the end before inserting. :)

My vet is open - Gladesville Vet Hospital if you need one (one of mine is unwell too) and SASH is always open 24/7 for emergencies.

Hope she is feeling much better.
