*kirty*
Just thought I'd post a quick update on Jolie. Within approx 24hrs of starting the cortisone, she was completely back to normal. She was on high doses for 5 days and now we are slowly weaning her off it. She hasn't shown any signs of regression since we started tapering the dose so fingers crossed she is all better now. She lost about 600g during her ordeal and looked skeletal! She has now put it all back on thankfully. :) Thanks again to everyone for their ideas and well wishes! Edited February 2, 2013 by *kirty*

Rascalmyshadow
That is great news. We lost our afghan to what the vets were sure was meningitis all the symptoms were similar to what your describing.
*kirty*
I'm so sorry Rascal. We won't ever know 100% if it was meningitis but we are assuming it is because of how quickly she responded to the medication. It seems to be more common in sighthounds - not sure why? Rascalmyshadow
Our afghan was only 18 months old, we thought she wasn't right from the time we adopted her from her breeder at 10 months old but he assured us her behaviour was normal for the breed. We saw improvement when on a drip and pumped full of drugs but as soon as she was home she lapsed, this happened 3 times in just under 3 weeks, we had her on a combo of 5-6 medications in that time frame. The last night we had with her she looked like a walking skeleton and couldn't move without screaming (we had ruled out injury) her eyes were so sunken. We ran out of treatment options and vet advice was PTS. We have her ashes and are planning on scattering them at hanging rock, it was the first place we went with her, she fell asleep at the top and my husband had to carry her down.
