*kirty*
My little iggie Jolie is very sick and the vets can't work out what's wrong. She is doing much better today but she is still not right, and if there is no improvement tomorrow we will be seeing a medicine specialist. I just wanted to write down all her symptoms in case something jumps out to someone. So far, they are thinking meningitis or pancreatitis but they don't seem to fit 100%. Her symptoms are: Lethargy Fever (40.2) Shaking Dehydration General body pain/aches but no specific sore spots Hunched back Tail tucked right up Stiff gait Head held down low Lack of appetite Yelping when picked up (sometimes) Bloods were relatively normal but lipase levels were 1200, WBC normal, creat was low (i think 46 from memory?) Any ideas? She has been on a drip for approx 32hrs and urine output seems normal. She hasn't pooped yesterday or today but she has only eaten about 5 tbsps of food in that time. Metacam didn't do anything so she is now on Tramadol for the pain. She had clav the first night (they thought she had an infection) then cephalexin. Lisey
Hi Kirty, that is no good and I hope she picks up soon.... Is it possible she has a blockage ? Eaten something she shouldn't have? Has she had an X-ray ?
Bjelkier
My first thought was a blockage too

persephone
Any access to treated pine products or water run off?
*kirty*
Blockage is possible, but she doesn't have any abdo pain or vomiting. I will ultrasound her at work tomorrow and see if anything shows up. They 'ruled out' spine because she has no spinal pain, all her reflexes are normal and she has normal range of movement. Pers, not as far as I'm away. No pine trees near here and no pine products. Only water around the place is indoor water bowls, and outdoor clam shell and water bucket. bianca.a
I was thinking a blockage too I hope she gets back to normal asap
Teebs
White blood count normal? It sounds like Atlas when he got sick with Immune Medicated Hemolytic Anemia, but it showed up in a urine and blood test right away
*kirty*
Yep WBC normal. I haven't done a urine test, the vets didn't suggest it. It's so frustrating and upsetting! She has been checked by four vets who I trust and nobody can give me answers.

schnauzer
Hunching the back is usually a sign of abdominal pain (I have been told by my vets). My bitch had similar but with vomitting and had pancreatitis. I would definitely do a urine test, next step would be xray and ultrasound organs. Hope you get an answer soon and that she recovers quickly. efs Edited January 22, 2013 by schnauzer
poodleslave
Get your vet to test for Rat Lungworm disease
*kirty*
I just googled lung worm in dogs, and I don't think it fits. I will ask though as we do have a lot of snails around here. Googling that though also lead me to find that my cat has Feline hyperesthesia syndrome! Been wondering why he acts the way he does, now I know. :) He doesn't self mutilate, but the lightest touch often sends him into a grooming frenzy. What should I be looking for with a urine test? k9angel
My first thought was also a blockage. I hope you get some answers tommorow and hope she's feeling better soon.
Scales of Justice
Get your vet to test for Rat Lungworm disease That's exactly what I was thinking and then saw that poodleslave had already suggested it. It would be wise to rule it out. Edited January 22, 2013 by Scales of Justice
Nekhbet
it sounds like something is wrong with the dogs liver, it's similar to people who have liver disease including the fever, shaking, pain and dehydration. Check if the dog has an enlarged liver with ultrasound, conversely the high lipase levels could mean pancreatitis. If the urine output is looking good then it's not kidney disease which low creatinine levels could point too as well.
littlesev
Perhaps infection or blockage? The symptoms are very similar to my puppy, except that his blood test showed inflammation. I saw three vets who suggested from paralysis tick to polyarthritis, but he responded very well to the antibiotics and got better so the vet concluded that it was probably side effect of his C5 vaccination. Sending prayers that Jolie gets better soon. It's really scary when the vet doesn't have exact diagnosis of the illness and the dog doesn't get better
*kirty*
I did think of liver, but she has no jaundice and bloods were normal. Infection should show on bloods too. So devastating to see her like this.
Nekhbet
you don't have to be jaundice to have liver problems, if the lipase was high and creatinine was low that means bloods are pointing to something out of the ordinary. It could just be the very beginning I would be doing bloods every day to see if the levels are changing.
*kirty*
She's getting worse again. She now has definite neck pain and cries if I move her. She just wants to sleep.
