Gelbregen
We have an AmStaff girl that we want to have tested (x-rays, ataxia etc) and not sure where to go. I have done all the tests with my GSD's over the years thru the club, but cant find anything useful on the AmStaff club website. I know how to get the hip x-rays done but what about the ataxia test? And do we need to do anything else? The breeder isn't all that helpful, and I got her as an older pup from someone else who has now moved and I cant contact them either. Any help will be appreciated. And yes, if she doesn't pass we will have her speyed.
3Woofs
Hi, The only company that tets for Ataxia is Antagene in France. You just need to email them and they will send you out a test kit. Take that kit to your vet who will fill out the paperwork and send it back to Antagene. http://www.antagene.com/en/ncl-cerebellar-ataxiastaffordshire-terrier-americain I would also strongly advise you to get your dog's heart tested by a cardiologist. Here is info on how to contact him. He held a testing day at the last VIC amstaff club specialty show so is very aware of the issues with amstaffs hearts. http://www.cprvictoria.com.au/ For Hips/Elbows, I send the xrays for scoring to Dr R Rawlinson.
