Jumabaar
I have always been able to keep my chemically sterilised boy with on heat girls- he is far to downtrodden to try anything! I am sterilising my other far more randy boy in the near future so it will be interesting to see if he loses interest. My oldest girl would sing to let the boys know when she was ready the little tart. I didnt take her for walks because there are far to many off lead dogs in my area for my to risk it. Instead I did trick training etc but thats just me.
Simply Grand
Thanks so much for the advice everyone! We just stayed home today, she's been pretty quiet, just lying around mostly but it's been hot today so it's probably because of that. I will try just keeping her at home and doing training here with her for now until she goes stir crazy! The boys have been acting normal around her today, no humping, but I'll still keep them apart when I'm not supervising. I made her some pants out of men's undies with a tail hole cut and a sanitary pad which she's quite happy wearing, she looks so cute, hehe! So one night and day down, 20 or so to go :D
Inka3095
Blerk my 6 month old shiba is just finishing her first season (and the first one I've ever dealt with!) - she was super quiet and subdued the whole time, didn't want to play or do much, and just lay around. Now she's almost back to her old self and just finishing up the leaking.... A 'few drops of blood' was what I was expecting... it was a lot worse than that lol. Oh, and she managed to get a UTI in the middle of it all
Simply Grand
huski, I was talking to a young couple I'm friendly with at the dog park about it yesterday and when I said she's starting her season the girl said "oh she's got her period?!" then later explained to her boyfriend about how a girl's (human) first period is usually quite light on the bleeding so Quinn's probably would be. I pointed out that I wasn't sure dogs were exactly the same as human teenage girls
Simply Grand
Some idiot has been biringing his in heat bitch to our dog park! I noticed my desexed boy sniffing and mounting her yesterday and quickly pulled him off today he was back and it was a nightmare bitch kept running up and trying to stand for him and I had to put my boy on the lead and even then he was frantic. Guy is an idiot just stands on opposite side of the oval and let's it happen. So yes neutered males can become crazy even 10 year olds!! Maybe he wants her to get pregnant to some random dog at the park, them he can sell the puppies Inka, yes Quinn was dipping everywhere today, hence the pants, poor thing. I see now how they can leave a trail! Edited January 12, 2013 by Simply Grand
persephone
I see now how they can leave a trail! ..and the sweat from their pads, and the little marking urinations they need to do.....and the odd hairs which detach and fall, carrying scent .......and the wagging tail , swishing scent around ... persephone
and , it is not the same as a human bleeding 'period' at all... with dogs it is their peak time ..their fertile/ovulation time ... just to confuse your friend's boyfriend even more :p
zeebie
New born disposable nappies work quite well with added tail hole and with the tabs you can adjust according to dog size, I got some when on special at Aldi and put aside for when needed but have trialled these as well, initially it was run around do zoomies and figure out how to get them off but eventually just gave up and forgot they were there.
Simply Grand
Gotta say, it's an odd experience taking off your dog's undies (???) so that she can go to the toilet
Simply Grand
Quinn and Saxon have decided they're in love today *rollyeyes* They don't normally play together that much, Saxon finds her annoying and she has more fun with Riley. Today he's following her around, licking her ears, humping her and sitting on top of her when she's lying down, and she keeps grabbing him with her front paws and "hugging" him, licking him and lying on top of him (she's 4 times his size). They both seem to be loving it  (obviously I'm not leaving them together unattended). Edited January 16, 2013 by Simply Grand

Simply Grand
Saxon seems to have forgotten that he's desexed, he's quite determined to hump her. He isn't aiming for anywhere near the right spot though, mostly her hips, back and shoulders :p She hasn't had any admirers hanging around yet that I've seen luckily. She's on day 6 now, is she more likely to try and get out to find a male and them more likely to try to get to her in week 2?

Simply Grand
Thanks murve, I will keep a close eye. She's not an escaper but I haven't extended the wooden fence yet and am vaguely worried she or a male could get over if desperate. I'm only letting her out of the house to the yard when I'm escorting her though so there won't be any hussy walks!
Simply Grand
I took the boys to the park today leaving poor Quinn at home of course. I tried to bribe her with one of her favourite chewies but she kept putting it down and coming back to the door like she was saying "no that's ok, I don't need a chewy, I'll just come with you guys" I had to just shut the door on her, mean mum! Simply Grand
Just posting again so I have a record until I make a more proper record. Today, day 13, Quinn has made it clear that she has had enough of Saxon humping her. She has been quite receptive to him giving it a go until this arvo, and not long ago she gave him a telling off and since then he's had a tentative sniff of her rear end and walked off. So I guess we are on the downhill slide now :) She will be very happy to get back to the park in a week or so and have a proper off leash zoomie!
