Rainy Posted January 9, 2013 Share Posted January 9, 2013 The Princes Highway has now been opened in both directions, following impact from the Deans Gap fire yesterday. Motorists need to be aware that a 60 km per hour speed restriction will be in place along the highway from Wool Road to Bendelong. The first groups of motorists will be given access via escort, then groups of vehicles will be let through progressively. Authorities had hoped to open the road earlier today, however the opening was delayed by a new spot fire to the north of Sussex Inlet Road and to allow the RFS and RTA to ensure the road was clear of dangerous fallen limbs and fire debris. It is possible that the road may close for short periods during the day to allow personnel to conduct emergency responses to fallen trees and other hazards. Sussex Inlet Road will also re-open, however this road may also be closed for periods to allow firefighting operations. Closures along Main Road 92 remain in place. Motorists are advised that although the highway is open fire appliances will still be very active in the area. The 60km speed limit will be strictly enforced, but may be revised later in the day. Crews will be working hard today to create containment lines on the eastern side of the highway while weather conditions remain advantageous. No evacuation orders are in place at the moment but residents are reminded to prepare their properties and make a bush fire survival plan now with hot weather forecast for later in the week. The Deans Gap fire has now burned more than 3,800 hectares with fire fighters working to create containment lines over its 44 km perimeter. Katdogs Posted January 9, 2013 Share Posted January 9, 2013 Actually Clyde that was something our vet mentioned, he's happy to take into his airconditioning as many pets as can safely fit on days like yesterday, no charge. Must keep that in mind next hot day if I can't be home. Wow, that's nice of him!! I know this vet will charge me, but in the scheme of 'what could be' it will be worth it. You have a terrific vet I think it was day-stay only, not overnighting - that would be boarding rates. But yes, he is a lovely man and really cares. More Information The grass/scrub fire is burning 11 kilometers west of Yass. Fire crews are undertaking property protection along Childowla Road as the fire is impacting on this area. Properties on Black Range Road and in the Ferndale, Sunnyside, Spring Vale, Wattle Valley, Yowerweema, Katandee and Euralia areas are advised that the fire may impact within the next two to six hours. There is a also a rural property on Glenroy Rd that may come in contact with fire. A friend of mine who lives on the edge of town was advised this morning as they look directly onto bushland/paddocks. ETA: am reading the info online on Facebook for Yass Tribune, lots of good information being shared that is current and from people in the area. Current Situation The bush fire is currently burning north of Timor Road towards Siding Spring Observatory. About a dozen isolated properties at Mt Woorut, including Siding Spring Observatory, are under threat. Police are evacuating the area. Firefighters and waterbombing aircraft are on scene. An Emergency Alert telephone warning message has been sent to people in the area. The message has been sent through mobile phone towers, meaning people outside the immediate warning area may have received this message. If you have received this message but are not in the Siding Spring area, continue to monitor the situation. Advice If you are in the area around the Siding Spring Observatory, leave immediately if the path is clear along Timor Road in an easterly direction towards Coonabaraban. A southerly change is forecast to affect the area in the next hour. This may push smoke and embers towards Bugaldie. People in the Bugaldie area should continue to monitor the situtation. Current Situation The fire is burning in the area around the Sulcor mine site and Dam Flat Road. There is a threat to isolated rural property. Firefighters are on scene. Current Situation This is a large, fast moving and dangerous bush fire. The fire is burning in a north and north westerly direction away from Timor Road and the Siding Spring Observatory. There is an immediate threat to life and property. Advice If you are north of Bugaldine, head towards Baradine if the path is clear. If you are south of Yearinan, head towards Coonabarabran. If the path is not clear, or if you are not sure, seek shelter as the fire impacts to protect yourself from the radiant heat. If you live in these areas but are not at home, do not attempt to return home. An evacuation centre has established at the Tattersalls Hotel, 23 Wellington Street, Baradine (this is instead of the Emergency Services Building). A relocation centre has been established for people from the Timor Road and Siding Spring area at the Coonabaraban Bowling Club at 79 Edwards Street Coonabarabran.
