Pound Rounds

Banging on and blamming the tennants for not feeding/cleaning pens etc is typical PR BS.

I don't give a stuff. MN heads up this group, If the tennants were not meeting the requirements she should have had people there daily meeting the dogs needs until things were resolved. It is just basic common sense!

She is responsible for those dogs. Two dogs were taken to the vet, they have been working their backsides off to get the place into decent shape since the raid and I for one am thrilled.

Anyone who believes positive change has come about via MN is a fool. It has come about through exposure and public pressure. If that is what it takes to FORCE her to pick up her game then I for one am happy to have been involved.

Have you personally seen the facilities? I suggest you look for yourself.

I wouldn't be allowed on the premises. That's not to say I haven't seen them though.

And, I'm sorry, but any group that puts a dog in boarding, that has been told by the kennel manager that the dog is pregnant on various occasions, and refused to believe it or even get a vet visit organised, is just downright neglectful. That dog whelped in boarding and had four puppies.

She could have been given vetcare much sooner and whelped in a home environment. But no. They know best. And who cares about just one individual dog in boarding when there are dozens?

Maybe they could have spent more attention to dogs if they weren't dealing with arm chair rescues and keyboard warriors, I've never heard of that story but the reality is stuff happens, I got my car serviced once and they didn't put something back properly where it was meant to go, I went back and had them fix it, I didn't create hate pages on facebook, find out where the mechanic lived and stalk his address, and finding out who his friends were and talking crap about him to them.

More PR BS :mad Are you as thick as two bricks?????????????? The welfare of the dogs is FIRST PRIORITY. Jesus!

ETA PR are the brilliant armchair warriors, glory whores at best. Problem is they have NFI what to do once they have pulled in the $$$$ and are left with a dog. They are incompetant fools.

Nic, Tbroils is the same person as Troy Bateman - not worth getting fussed about (though it all makes me very sad and angry).

Thanks Hun, who is Troy Bateman? I have no idea

Been to busy with other stuff, so not up to speed.

I don't expect any sensible answers from somebody that can't count to ten. What a troll.

Careful, don't tell him he can't count to ten on the FB hate page or he will delete your comment!

Gotta hate it when people delete your comments, I should go make a hate page about it

I hope whoever this twitt is can still post as I would like to ask a few questions myself.

MN is the queen of slander and hate sites. I have been blessed with a couple myself :D

Sorry, he's one of the faceless people supporting PR and anti-DOL.

I'm trying not to watch any more.

I don't actually know MN - so do you think she has got herself in this bother because she tried to go to far to quickly? Or was it this way from the start?

MN believes she is the answer to no kill in Aust. Getting every single dog out of just two kill pounds in NSW is not the answer.

Not only has she gone in with absolutely NO idea and NO experience, it is her way or the highway.

Reducing euth rates needs a multi pronged approach, there are so many elements and dynamics in play.

She crucifies anyone and everyone in her path, so has no hope in working on a 'proactive' level on the bigger issues or on the "flow" of dogs living in shelters.

It has been this way from the start.

She reminds me of PETA and Indrid N which is a really worry in this country though also a huge concern OS.

She basically moves them from one pound to a PR "pound' (mass kennels), and calls it success. I fail to see how that is success, especially considering blacktown is now apparently a no kill shelter.

She moves them anywhere Minimax not just into PR's immediate care.

Sadly, the dogs suffer as the only focus is getting dogs off a kill list. PR's is geared for donations and feeds already inflated ego's.

Once the dogs leave a shelter is what is incredibly concerning for welfare advocates. There is a lot more to this.

If only PR's considered the welfare of the dogs first and formost.

I think some people do not really understand dogs very well. They believe that every dog, no matter its behaviour, can be placed in a home. They believe that dangerous dog behaviours can be modified and managed if people are prepared to put the effort and love in. This view puts the safety of pets and people in the community at risk. Community standards are that pet dogs should not be dangerous to others. That's why the failure to screen out aggressive dogs (best practice) is unethical.

Then there is the issue of long-term kennelling, where you could compare the effects of long term kennelling on dogs with the institutionalisation of people. Unless there is a proper enrichment program going on (fun and games and learning, not shock collars), then the long term kennelling can be very mentally damaging.

So true. The thing is we are not just dealing with a handful of incidents through this groups poor practice, there are endless issues. The issues go on and on and on and keep going for ever and ever. They have impacted enormously upon well meaning people everywhere.

The behaviourist who jumped on board when these kennels opened left ages ago (for obvious reason I can gather)

Not ONCE have they stepped back and said "Ok, time to have a really good look at things guys" :hitself:

To be fair, a lot of dogs can be rehabilitated as seen by the work done by Best Friends in Utah.

That said, Best Friends is a unique set up, with highly experience trainers and behaviouralists specialising in canine behaviour. They have successfully rehabilitated traumatised fighting dogs belonging to Michael Vick, for instance.

However, I have seen a number of episodes where they say that because of a dog's issues, it cannot go to a home and will spend the rest of its life at Best Friends. This isn't kennelling, however, as the centre does provide a stimulating pack environment.

I think much can be learned by the Best Friends set-up but only by the logical, the clear-headed, and the rational. Anyone else need not apply.

 When did BP become a NO KILL shelter? Didn't know one existed let alone one as big as Blacktown.

It's not, but PR have taken credit for turning it into a no kill shelter because they apparently take all the dogs on the kill list.

They seem to miss the point that a no kill shelter wouldn't have a kill list in the first place. I wonder if blacktown know PR are going around telling everyone about their no kill status?

They are not. MN has laid claim to that though.

The thing is, what PR's are doing (poor practice etc) is dangerous for rescue in NSW and as a whole. It is not maintainable long term. More than that, dogs are at serious risk. They do not address the issue of impounded companion animals. If you are serious in efforts to assist impounded companion animals long term you would work very differently and make SURE you knew what the hell you are doing.

Yep and more to the point if other rescues or PR's disapeared tomorrow dogs will continue to die.

PR's is cleaning up mess which we all do day in and day out and which we have done for years and years. They are just more vocal.

BCC nor HP will never be able to state they are no kill until they acheive that ethically and under their own steam.
