Henrietta
Hello, Have any of you ever met a Schipperke? What was your impression of them? Those with experience with the breed, what would an ideal owner be for a Schipperke? Thanks. :)

Kavik
I had one as a kid, lovely lively little dogs, on my 'one day' list of breeds to own again :)
Salukifan
First impression: quite "terrier like". Spunky, animated and dare I say it..... a tad noisy. The only one I know well is a pretty tough little guy - not a dog for someone who's not prepared to give it boundaries or plenty of stimulation. Loving my Oldies
Wonderful little dogs. Never owned one, but helped out a couple in rescue. Thanks for your reply. What did you like about them? Happy, good natured, robust, playful. There doesn't seem to be a profile in Breeds 101, so maybe go to a few other sources.

Kavik
I've met a couple through rescue... lovely little dogs, but a bugger on the recall... *grin* T. Yes the one I had did not have a reliable recall . . . but I was only 10 years old so my training knowledge was not that great  Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to bring him when my family moved here from the USA
Dogsfevr
We board a number of them ,the quietest breed around to board infact i haven't heard any of them bark. They area Spitz so can have any of the Spitz traits ,they ones we board are very social, very easy going & they live with young children to retirees so very adaptable. They have a very long life span as well
Cheyenne_Fury
They are lovely looking little dogs :) Unfortuntely my brother decided to get one from a "breeder" but he hadn't been socialised and was still entire even though the "breeders" were not going to use him for breeding. He was very timid and turns out actually quite agressive. My brother and his partner were not able to keep him and so I took him on and did some training with him in hopes that he would be a good companion for my mum who does not work due to a back injury and has limited mobility. In the end after a lot of training and working with behaviourists etc. we had to have him pts as he was just too unpredictable and attacked me several times and also attacked and bit my sister and attempted to bite the little girl that lived next store to my mum. We even contacted the Schipperke club and were told that they had dealings with dogs from this "breeder" before and had also experienced agression issues. I'm sure though that if coming from a suitable/responsible breeder then they would be fantastic little dogs to have around lots of fun and energy :)
Jed
Very intelligent and easy to teach. They also love children. Easy care, very affectionate, playful, yet sensible. If allowed, they will bark, but a little training solves that. There are a couple of breeders on here who may see your thread. Come in black and cream (rare). My first dog was a Schipperke X Foxy, it was a present for my ninth birthday, she was all black, so I think she was more Schipperke. She was smart as anything, I trained her to climb ladders, play soccer & the normal sit, stay, drop etc. She was very loving & I never once heard her growl, or try to bite any of my friends, even though some were rough with her. I think they'd be perfect for a family with kids, they have energy to burn.
Ruin Maniac
I think "spunky" is a great description. Met a few while at a show. Gorgeous little dogs with heaps of energy and personality. :)
RiverStar-Aura
There's a gorgeous black Schipp at my dog park who is definitely spunky!! He's such a friendly, happy go lucky boy and has the sweetest temperament. He bounds around rather like a fox and I love watching his exuberance!! :D
murve
I have a few friends that are Breeders/ trialers with the "spunky" breed, we love'em :D They are members of Schipperke club Vic, this breed was on my daughters list of a new dog to get, it was in close comp with the Papillon  well the Pap won, yes this breed do need training but they are full of themselves/ showoffs when given the chance

ophnbark
Great little dogs, wouldn't have any other breed  Yes, they do require boundaries and training but they do NOT bark for no reason. They are friendly, happy little dogs and can be trained to do almost anything. We have had a few compete in obedience and do brilliant recalls and out of sight stays however they do not enjoy constant, boring training especially if they do not see a reason for doing it Low maintenance in as far as grooming, very intelligent, love to play and friendly, what more could you want
Blakbelgian
Agree with most of the stuff mentioned. Low maintanence as in grooming, bathing on rare occasions, virtually THE most healthiest breed out breed there. Not fussy eaters, well most arent. yes part of the Spitz family so can be little stubborn at times but a poece of fod and they will obey. Would reccommend a yard with a fence. Would suit most poeple of any age. They do like a walk then spend the rest of the day on the couch if allowed. Not a constant barker. Wouldn't mix them with rabbits or guinea pigs. Any other questions please ask. BB
